Hi Kat, great article on pain. As a recovering alcoholic and addict

myself, I am very upfront and honest with my doctors about increases/or

decreases in my pain and with these great doctors and good

communication, we have found non-opiod medications that help quell the

pain or elimininate it all together.(like Elavil or Neurontin) Recently,

having an extremely painful pulled muscle, I was given a very low dose

of an opiod, which, with rest, has helped with the pain, and also

allowed me to be fairly mobile. Although, to ANYONE taking medications,

I would caution about the use of driving under meds until you know

exactly how your body will react. I only take meds. as prescribed, say 1

or 2 a day, etc. If you take meds. MORE than prescribed, that is the

time go call your doc and say 'we need to talk about my pain', etc.
