Guest guest
Oh no! I am so sorry that he was so sick! I am glad that you found out it was the corn! I am very interested now that it causes behavior problems! I will have to do some research on that one. My son is Hyper. I wonder if it is caused by a food? hmm..... Alyssa corn intolerance Hi everyone! Remember I said Jake outgrew his corn problem? NOT SO! Read on...We added corn back into Jake's diet about 4-5 weeks ago, and all was well! It lasted about 1-2 weeks, when he came down with this vomiting and diarrhea that lasted 5 days. My older boy, Cal, had it for 1 day. Then Jake was healthy for 4 days, then he got the flu, with a fever, that lasted for 9 days - he ended up having chest x-rays and blood work done. Again, Cal got it, but only for 3 days. Now, my mom kept saying "it's gotta be the corn, Heid" and I kept denying it, saying that corn wouldn't cause a viral bug. BUT, at the end of his sickness, he started being completely miserable. We fluffed it off when he was sick because, hey, he was sick, but now that he was healthy? It really crept up on us over the few weeks. Well, he started screaming at us "I don't want you! Don't touch me!" and we'd ask him what was wrong and he'd scream at the top of his lungs "I don't KNOW!" then start bawling. He'd be like this off and on all day long. Then he woke up one night screaming, and when our kids wake up, they always want us to cuddle with them for a minute. Well, he wanted NOTHING to do with us and just kept bawling and screaming. My husband then announced "he's going off the corn - that's it!" So, we took him off the corn, and over the next 3 days, the screaming subsided, his joyful, sweet personality returned, and on the third day, he was *completely* back to normal. I also noticed that he was singing and talking to himself and his action figures while playing, which he had also stopped doing, but I failed to notice because it was so gradual.Needless to say, corn is out. The only thing that is weird is that we give him OreIda fries, Mc's fries, which both contain corn (either through oil or dextrose) and he has no reaction, which is why we thought he would be fine. When we first introduced the corn, we only gave him things with corn syrup, and he seemed fine. Could it be just corn flour? Or is the cumulative effect of ingesting corn over a period of weeks? We are now also convinced that his extreme sickness was due to the corn - his body was inable to fight the viruses properly because it was too busy fighting the corn. Also, he has never tested positive for corn allergy. He is celiac and tests positive for dairy allergy, but not corn. It has always been behavioural. What is up with this? It was so upsetting, but also so reassuring, knowing that by eliminating one food, we have a sweet, loving little boy. Anybody else have this reaction?
