We were in my son's room 4-5 times in the night turning his head when he would shimmy off of his sleep positioning wedge. This often woke him up, and we were none too happy about it either. Now he is in his helmet, and I can put him down on the floor for 5 minutes to pee or whatever without feeling guilty that he is laying on his flat spot! Heehee. If your child can be successfully repositioned at 8 months, then maybe it will work for you. But I think for most people, their child will not stay in the position that they are put into by that age, so they wiggle off of sleep positioners and that sort of thing. My son was wiggling off of his positioner by 3 months old. Also, the older your baby gets, the longer they would have to wear the helmet if repositioning does not work, so that may be why people are encouraging you to helmet instead of repo at 8 months. Have you been to CT or Star for an evaluation to know what amount of severity you are dealing with? If not, then I would suggest doing that so you at least know what you are working with. The helmet is non-invasive and is MUCH less stressful than repoing. We repoed from 3months-7.5 months and my son's plagio didn't get worse or better. I think the repoing helped it from getting worse but it certainly didn't help it get better.
