Carl C. Pfeiffer, MD, PhD says that elevated ALT is a sign of a vitamin B6

deficiency. Dr. Pfeiffer, deceased, is the author of many books and medical

articles. He treated over 8,000 schizophrenics & others with mental/emotional

problems with neutraceuticals. His book NUTRITION AND MENTAL ILLNESS An

Orthomolecular Approach to Balancing Body Chemistry can be ordered at Amazon for

about $10.50.

If you are giving your son oral risperdal your doctor should check to see if

your son has a normal functioning P450 enzyme CYP2D6, which detoxifies*

Risperdal (*also referred to as: biotransforms or metabolizes). Since many

drugs inhibit the CYP2D6 enzyme, your doctor and/or pharmacist should check to

see if your son is taking any other drugs, vitamins, or minerals (including DMSA

& ALA) that inhibit CYP2D6.

I believe that TD-DMPS might put less stress on the liver since drugs

administered by transdermal, IV or intramuscular route BYPASS the 'first pass'

liver detox given to oral substances (generally with the P450 enzymes but other

enzymes are also used, depending upon the substance). Theoretically, many of our

children have deficient P450 enzymes and that is why they cannot detoxify heavy

metals.

Hope this helps,

Janet McAuley
