Does anyone know how I can get my insurance company to pay for a pre-pregnancy abdominal cerclage when I've never had a miscarriage before? My cervix is very short and the perinatologist (1st opinion) said that he didn't even know if he could get a stitch in it for a vaginal cerclage.

If your cervix is naturally very short, then I don't think there will be an issue with not having your insurance pay for it just because you haven't suffered a loss. Meaning, if there is a medical necessity (in this case, you have too short a cervix for even a vag cerclage), then it's warranted.

Colleen,

The perinatologist that will perform the surgery should have office personel who know how to get things approved with your insurance company. I had my ab. cerclage placed prior to pg and had had all of my losses prior to the births of our 2 older children and the doctor's office had no problems getting the surgery approved. Talk to the doctor!

My insurance company was difficult to deal with BUT I did not take no for an answer. THAT is the key.

Your OB/GYN should be able to get approval. I myself had to make a few phone calls and write 2 letters as well as my OB doing the same. I shook up their world!!!!!

I think I saw that you have Blue Cross. Start with your OB/GYN after you know of a Doc that you want. Have their referral office get the paper work started. IT may take a few weeks or months as mine did but I got mine pre-pg. Feel free to write private and we can chat.

Carol Lynn,

Thank you very much. I actually have Kaiser Permanente out here in

Colorado. I am not one to take no for an answer so I expect to be

scheduling surgery!

I will let you know what they say - I have an appointment today. My

husband is really logical and while I've made up my mind to have it

done no matter what he needs to weigh all the pros and cons. Sigh.

Engineers!

Anyway - thanks for your thoughts.

Appreciated!

Collen

I just had my surgery December 4, pre-pg. It did take awhile for my husband to become comfortable with me having it. Dr. Haney really set him at ease though. My husband is also an M.D. and with knowing all the things that could still go wrong he never seemed at peace with subjecting me with the surgery and trying again. Dr. Haney seemed to help him with all his knowledge and experianced that THIS WOULD work for us! We have no choice........ my DH is now together with me on this and he is happy to start trying again now. I hope you have a similiat good experiance with you dr and all will go well.

Best

to you

Carol Lynn,

That's awesome! One last question - was it laparoscopy? or regular

laparotomy? I just read they're doing it less invasively through

laparoscopy...that's what you get when you work in a library! :)

I'm absolutely praying for you.

God Bless!

I'm thinking about you!
