Guest guest
Yes Marie, treating any infection before pregnancy would be in your best interest. Although, I didn't have an infection when I went into premature labor they always were testing me for it. Guest guest
Yes GBS is one of the infections that can cause PTL and should be checked for on a regular basis. Generally they will treat you with anti-biotics and if you are still +ve for it when baby is due they will do a repeat anti-biotic and if I'm not mistaken they give the baby anti-biotics just after birth as well HTH Shona marieo31 wrote: With my last 2 prenancies with failed vag cerclages I had this infection. Guest guest
Shona Wilke, Thank you so much for the information. I am so worried about this. Do you know how you get GBS in the first place? Re: ab cerlage and Group B strep infection Yes GBS is one of the infections that can cause PTL and should be checked for on a regular basis. Guest guest
Marieo I'm not 100% sure how you get it. I just know that it is one of the tests that the girls on the PROM list talk about getting tested for a lot because it can cause problems if not detected. That being said I know there are a couple of ladies here that have tested positive for it and have been treated and have been fine. I think Trish might have been one of them. Group B Strep is a naturally occuring bacteria in your body...in some people (about a third of the population), it "colonizes". From what I understand also, just because one wasn't GBS positive in a previous pregnancy, doesn't mean you won't in a subsequent pregnancy.
