OT, my update

Hello,

I finally had my 6 month check up today (a week late, surgeon was on

vacation). It really went well. The surgeon (Dr. E. Patchen

Dellinger) says " You are in the

very small minority of patients that do EXCEEDINGLY well with this

surgery...you are the poster child for a successful gastric bypass! "

I couldn't believe my ears! His praise for me was glowing. (It felt

weird cause I just assumed that my loss was normal). I had my mom

there with me (hub was home with the kids)...and yeah she

embarrassed me! :-) She takes Dellinger's hand and says " I want to

thank you for saving my daughter's life " and she gets all teary

eyed...Dellinger kind of " mists up " too...and I'm sitting there

thinking OMG why'd I bring her? LOL Dellinger was his usual humble

self and says " I only gave her the key...everything else she did on

her own " ...I love this man! He tells me AGAIN that 160 is the right

weight for me (with my very large frame and being 5'7 " )...I say " I

dunno, 145 sounds better! " To which he laughs and playfully

scolds " Now don't get too greedy! " I think really 145-160, where

ever it falls will be fine with me.

Then Dellinger and the nutritionist say they want to know the secret

of my success...I don't wanna embarrass them by saying " well I don't

do the Tums/Flinstones/CIB thing for one " so I just kinda mumble " I

do protein shakes, good vitamins and I don't eat white carbs... "

They were both impressed. I left the office feling on top of the

world!

So then my Mom says were going shopping. Cool! I love shopping now.

She says " I am buying you a good pair of walking shoes " ...fine by

me. We go to the New Balance store. Now before surgery I was wearing

a MEN'S 9 (equivalant to a women's 10.5) in a 4E width. I ask to

have my feet measured. I about fell over when he said WOMEN'S 8.5 E

width (wide feet are a neat " gift " from my dad). So I find some

shoes that feel and look great! Mom buys them. I do a double take

when I realize that she just spent over $130 on them...LOL my mother

loves me! (I don't think I have ever spent over $40 on a pair of

shoes in my life...and yes this is the very FIRST pair of women's

shoes that I have ever owned in my adult life!!!)

So we have a great old time...my mom gives me a #5 tub of Vanilla

Whey Stack (missing 2 scoops) cause she didn't care for it...Again

very cool...

So later on I start home from my day in Seattle. I am

feling really good at this point nso I decide to stop in North Bend

at the Gap outlet. (wanna " size " myself) I was very pleased to fit

in regular jeans (not stretch or anything) at a size 12. (In stretch

I wear 10 easily). I try on a shirt...it is as a " Large " ...it fits

fine. I say to the lady " So this large...what is it really, about a

16? " She makes my day by telling me that it is indeed a 10-12!!! So

I am a solid 10-12 now....beats the hell out of the 28/30 I was

wearing 6 months ago...

I can't express to you all how very grateful to have found something

that truly works wonders for me. I know that you can relate! Thanks

for letting me share!

Sure...I exercise 5 times a week or more by walking 3 or more miles

a day. I am going to start riding my bike (once it gets

fixed...might take a while as hubby is " working on it " LOL)

Vitamin wise, I get B-12 shots every month, I take 3 Osteo Enhance

brand calcium citrates a day, 1 Centrum Chewable, 1 Coromega (fish

oil), 1 Dry Vitamin E, folic acid, and milk thistle.

Eating...I eat 3 times a day, with one snack and 2 protein shakes

(usually Stack). I eat mainly protein sources, some fruits

(strawberies) and some veggies. I don't drink milk (that being said,

I do indulge in 1 latte a month as a treat). I don't eat simple

carbs at all (it helps that bread makes me sick!!!!) I really

basically follow the advice that is given here...I didn't even start

protein shakes until 2.5 months out. It should be noted here that I

am a proximal, and I don't have the same protein needs as distals or

medials.

I listened to the surgeon and nutritionist's advice at first....then

the researcher in me took over and wanted to find out what was the

BEST way to eat for me. That's when I found this list...I believe

that you can't beat the advice of those that have been there and

done that! I am not suggesting that people not listen to their

doctor, but simply to become your own advocate...they do the

surgery, we live the life. Just my humble opinion as always!
