(I use some collagens, too, but it certainly wouldn't be listed in the top 10.

LOL!)

AND, need I say, the above are all CHOCOLATE. Like there's anything else.

however, everyone knows I'm kinda wishy washy & have no strong opinions.

Being allergic to soy, peanuts, nuts, lentils, and did I mention soy and

peanuts? LOL has meant that there are essentially NO protein bars out there for

me to even try. I found one that was based on ground cow hooves as far as I

could tell, and it tasted like lemon or blueberry flavored cow hooves... not

really worth it to get my protein in bar format!

If anyone knows of a GOOD bar that slides in under these allergies, I'd like to

hear about it, but I doubt I'll ever find one.

,

The sad thing is, if we find a company that makes a bar without any of those

ingredients there is usually a disclaimer stating it might contain nut products

since it is made in the same plant as the nut products.

If I were you I wouldn't even worry about protein bars. The protein in them is

not really available to us anyway, because it is not predigested, not a good

protein source. In fact, it is questionable whether the protein is available to

normies. I will admit the bars are filling, and sometimes keep me from eating

worse things.

However, if you just want something sweet, as you probably know, there are lots

of very delicious sugar free chocolate bars and other candy out there, hopefully

some without peanut residue.

Having said all this, there are lots of people out there who are allergic to the

things you are allergic too. I think that someone, somewhere, someday, will

make a protein bar for you.

Cheers

Oops.. I have to disagree with this. I sell Real Estate and as much

as I would love to have protein shakes and my PS100 handy all the

time, I just can't. I live in the car and protein bars are just

handier for me.

There are some VERY good protein bars out there (notice I didn't say

energy bars.)

Designer Whey

Myoplex

Keto

These bars are low in effective carbs and high in pre-digested

protein isolates The new Keto bar is even healthier by not adding

any palm oil...and many are following their lead.

The problem is not with the bars...it is with the consumer that is

looking for the " candy bar " taste and is reaching for the high carb,

high sugar bars. Serious consumers of protein bars know what to

look for and have developed a taste for their favorite bars even if

the really healthy ones taste like " fortified cardboard " . They just

bite the bullet and soon enough you start to actually like them, lol.

The protein bars I eat are approximately 25 grams in protein and 3

grams of effective carbs and 0 sugar. I can only eat half at a time

and they are life savers for me.

Carol,

I'm really glad that they work for you, but have a look at the

wrappers... are any of them COMPLETELY free of:

- peanuts

- any other nuts or legumes like almonds, walnuts, cashews, lentils and

peas

- soy protein isolate

- hydrolyzed (or not) vegetable protein (hydrolyzed corn protein is ok)

- soy flour

- the notice that " this food is manufactured on a production line/in a

plant that processes peanuts/nuts/soy " ?

If you find any that don't have any of these things, I will be in

heaven, if the bars are not also made from ground cow hooves with the

yucky barnyard taste to match. LOL

As you gals can guess, I am NOT and have basically never been, a

vegetarian. I tried for a year once, and gained weight and cholesterol

points on my dairy and egg diet. There are exactly two kinds of beans

(other than green beans) that I can eat... and they get old really fast.

I can commiserate with you, - I am allergic to wheat, corn, rice and

soy. Someone tried to convince me once to go on the " eat for your blood

type " diet. I was allergic to everything that was on the diet for my type -

Not a good idea! I can't eat any kind of beans other than green beans. I'm

fortunate in that I am able to eat some nuts like almonds (related to

peaches), walnuts and pecans, but not cashews, peanuts, lentils or peas. I

have problems with seeds too, so must avoid most vegetable oils, sesame oil,

sunflower oil, etc. The post-op diet is perfect for me. I drink 2 shakes a

day and eat meat, vegies and fruit and call myself happy and healthy!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Carol,

I cannot eat even half of the detour bar, but instead of as a protein

supplement I use it as a " Snickers " supplement. I cannot eat sugar I dump

horribly and even if I eat too much detour bar I dump but when I want some

chocolate the detour fills that need. At certain times of the month that

chocolate fix is a necessity!

I still can't get myself to call Detour bars protein supplements.

They are loaded with effective carbs (22) and this is not from

glycerlean. Fiber content is only 2, sugar is at 6 gms and calories

ring in at almost 300. As far as I am concerned you are just as

well off taking a few bites of a snickers or Fanny May chocolate

then wasting the calories on a Detour bar.

There are protein supplements...

There are Candy Bars...

and then there are protein bars that try to taste like candy bars so

people can delude themselves into thinking they are truly eating

something wholesome that taste so good.

Ah...the tricks our minds play on us ;)

I just get worried when new post-ops think that the high carb, candy

tasting protein bars are a good protein supplement.

If you are using the Detour bar the way you are using it and it

satisfies the occaisional craving for a Snickers bar then its better

then loading up on sugar :)
