Welcome to the group Ida,

my situation is similar to yours. I have a 2 1/2 year old son I am home with. I had a cone biopsy done last year which removed partial cervix. When I became pregnant again I was told I mayneed a cervical cerclage but my outer cervix shortened so much by week 15 that the only option was the abdominal. I was on bed rest for 2 weeks and have done well since then. The only restriction I have had is no lifting which is difficult with a small child at home. I am fortunate in that my parents live nearby and have helped out a lot. I am pleased to report I am now approaching 38 weeks and my c-section is sheduled for Dec. 26. Please let us know what questions you have. I have found this group to be very informative and supportive.

Hi,

I am new to joining an on-line group, so be patient with me as I learn what I am doing. I found out about Abbyloopers from Taryn. My name is Ida and I live in Pittsburgh. I am very interested in learning more about the abdominal cerclage. I'd like to educate myself about it and also locate doctors in my area that peform the surgery. I had a cone biopsy done on Valentine's Day this year and most of my cervix was taken. In order to have a future pregnancy an abdominal cerclage is a possibility for a successful pregnancy. I have a 22 month old daughter that I am staying at home raising. I need all the details about the abdominal cerclage and pregnancy there after in order to make some decisions. I so desperately want to have another child. I just don't know how complicated it can be and I don't have a great deal of help here. I look forward to getting acquainted with other women that can help me learn more about the abdominal cerclage.

Sincerely,Ida

Welcome to the group Ida. I am glad you know about the ab cerclage

now so you can learn more and get the ab rather than the cervical

cerclage. So many of us have lost babies with the cervical. Do you

have a doctor yet to talk to? This is a great place to ask

questions. Everyone has been so great to me.

Ida,

I am so glad you are

here. Welcome. You will find all the info here. I had my ab placed at 12 weeks.

I lost a son to two vaginal cerclages last year. I have been on SBR since my

surgery. The doc ordered MBR but my last visit at 22 weeks I was funneling and

my cx had shortened by 25% of its length. I spent four nights and five days in

the hospital. Recovery took three weeks for me. Everyone is different. You can

get the ab pre-pg. some women have done this. I am going to the doc today. I have

been having contractions for the last five days. I am a big candidate for ptl. I

am on progesterone shots to help prevent ptl. I didn’t give you a

detailed story b/c I am waiting to see what the doc says today. I will write

you with more info. I am soooo glad you are here.

God bless,

Taryn,

I’m so glad that you referred me to

this message board. I am eager to learn all that I can from the gals in the

group. I would have an abdominal cerclage put in place prior to getting

pregnant. I had thought that the abdominal cerclage would prevent me from

having to be on complete bed rest. Who was the doctor that did your

abdominal cerclage? Would you recommend him/her? I will keep you in

my prayers. I just know that I would have to face a loss if we got

pregnant without the ab/cer. How long were you in the hospital for the ab/cer?

When you have time fill me in with the details. I hope that your dr.

appt. went well. I look forward to hearing from you later.

Chele,

Thanks for the welcome. I look

forward to learning from the women in the group. I don’t have

enough cervix left to do a vaginal cerclage and I think that the odds are very

high that I’d lose a baby if we got pregnant without the ab/cerc. I

got a referral from my Ob here to see a specialist at Allegheny

General Hospital. I met with her

last week and she was wonderful. She didn’t know of anyone that does the

ab/cerc, but told me if I decided to get one she would follow my entire

pregnancy. She told me about a woman that moved from another state and

had the ab/cer in place. Her pregnancy went smoothly and she delivered a healthy

baby. That was reassuring to me and so I figured I’d check into

everything. I so desperately want another child and I don’t know

that I can handle a loss. I just need to get as much info. as I

can. Did you have the ab/cerc. put in? If you have a doctor that

you would recommend that would be great. I need to know all the logistics

of the ab/cerc. and a pregnancy because with a toddler to care for and no help

here I need to know what I’m up against. I hope to hear from you

soon. Thanks for the welcome e-mail!

Love,

Ida

Hi, yes I just had the abd. cerclage placed last month (Nov 20th), pre-pregnancy. I live in the thumb area of Michigan, and traveled to Chicago to see Dr. Arthur Haney. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Haney to *anyone*, yes....he is outstanding. He is also Kara and Carol Lynn's doctor as well.

Dr. Haney:

http://www.uchospitals.edu/physicians/physician.php?id=6153

There is also a database of doctors on Abbyloopers in the database section:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Abbyloopers/database

Providing we are successful next year with infertility treatment, I will have a perinatologist here in MI monitor my pregnancy. Dr. Haney will be in touch with my doctor here.

Amy,

I’m so glad to know that I’m not

alone and that there is hope. I live in Pittsburgh and need to find a

doctor to do the ab/cerc. I would like to have the ab/cerc

put in place prior to getting pregnant and I was wondering if that will make it

harder for us to get pregnant. I noticed from someone else in the group

that they were on bedrest for 2 weeks and able to do most things otherwise.

That is reassuring! A vaginal cerclage is not a possibility since so much

of my cervix was taken, so the ab/cer. is my only hope. It is so good

that you are 38 weeks now. I have to convince my husband that there is

hope, so it is encouraging that you are 38 weeks along. I know that I

would lose a baby if we got pregnant without the ab/cerc. so I don’t want

to take that risk. I just want to complete my family. We bought a

huge house to accommodate more children and I don’t want to be the

only child. It sounds like the adoption process can be long and difficult

from the other messages. I would really like to have another biological

child. I’ve been so down and out about it that I finally got rid of

all the maternity clothes and have given away all the hand me downs. If the

Lord allows us to have another baby, I’ll buy clothes again. There’s

no sense storing stuff that I don’t know if I’ll ever use

again. I pray that I will be able to have another baby.

Please provide me with more details of your ab/cerc so I have all the info. to

present to my husband. I want to go forward and I think getting the

ab/cerc and then getting pregnant is the way for me. I look forward to

hearing from you.

Hi Ida,

My husband wasn't too thrilled with the idea of the ab cerclage either. In fact while at the hospital for surgery he was trying to convince my doc to try the vaginal. My lack of cervix made that option impossible so he didn't have much of an argument!! He's just the type of person that questions everything. I know it was just his fear and concern for me. My surgery went very well. From start to finish it only took 1 hour. I had some trouble with nausea and vomitting for a couple days but was also pregnant and have had nausea throughout this entire pregnancy! The pain was minimal and was able to manage fine on just tylenol by the third day. The 2 weeks bed rest following surgery was just a precaution. I did not have any complications. My doc did say that because I am rather thin, the procedure and healing tends to be a little easier. I know you are concerned about caring for your daughter after surgery. It is amazing at how quickly kids adjust. My 2 year old did much better than I expected. They learn to do more for themselves and he is very careful around my belly! I hope you find all the answers to your questions from the women here. They are much more knowledgeable of the actual procedure and possible complications than I am so keep on asking!

Amy,

I’m glad to know that the surgery

only took an hour and that you only suffered vomiting. I had the morning

sickness the entire pregnancy with . What have you heard about having the

ab/cerc. put in prior to getting pregnant? I wondered how difficult it would

make it to get pregnant. I think that is what I will have to do in my

situation. Thanks for your response. Also, what doctor did your ab/cerc? I’m

trying to gather some doctor information. I won’t want to travel too far

for the procedure and need to know if insurance covered the procedure. I’m

just glad that I have someone that can relate to my situation.

of my cervix was taken. In order to have a future pregnancy an abdominal

cerclage is a possibility for a successful pregnancy. I have a 22 month

old daughter that I am staying at home raising. I need all the details

about the abdominal cerclage and pregnancy there after in order to make some

decisions. I so desperately want to have another child. I just

don't know how complicated it can be and I don't have a great deal of help

here. I look forward to getting acquainted with other women that can help

me learn more about the abdominal cerclage.

Sincerely,

Ida

Ida,

Welcome to the list!! Ask any questions. My ab cerclage was placed at 11 weeks. I carried to 35.5 weeks and had a healthy boy. There a several women here that had cone biopsies and the ab cerclage to have a child.

Ida,

The ab

does not guarantee that you will not be on BR. It helps your cx to be tighter. Some women have to have BR and some don’t.

no knows why or who will be on BR. I highly recommend my doc. I sent Jodi to

him. however their maybe a doc that is just as good but located closer in your

area. I live in Florida. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. You can

never have to many prayers.

I lost my son last year

due to IC and PTL. I had a vaginal cerclage placed at

15 weeks as a precaution. I had two leaps done in 2001which took must of my

cervix. At 22 weeks I had funneled to the stitch and was diolated

1 cm. I had a specialist due a rescue cerclage. My cx was .5 and went to 1.5. I stayed on SBR in the hospital.

I was only allowed to use the RR. I started ptl and

they were unable to stop it. I found this group last year and I collected all

the info for our next pg. so, in September I had the ab

cerclage placed at 12 weeks. I had a hard surgery. It

took an hour. My doc was the same one that did my rescue cerclage.

He is wonderful. My hd was in the surgery room with

me for the rescue and the ab. I stayed in the

hospital for 4 nights and 5 days. This is how long they keep you if you have a

c-section. Plus, you have to have a BM first before they let you go. I was

placed on SBR for two weeks then MBR. I have been on MBR since. There is nothing

else I can do. MBR is different for ea person. I have to stay home. I can use the

shower, RR, I can sit up for dinner, go out to dinner once a week and lay in a

lazy boy, which I will have on Sunday. I am going to borrow my parents one. so,

it has been a long ride for us. I still have fears and pray that God will give

us our miracle.

I wanted to try it all. I

feel better knowing that I gave it my all and I am. I gave looked into other

options as so. We have decided that if the ab does

not work that we would go to surragancy. Everyone is

different and have different stories that is what makes this group so great and

special. I hope you find what you are looking for.

God bless,

Taryn

You would probably better benefit having it done prepregnancy. I would get at least 2 opinions. I don't think it will be a problem with insurance. As far as I can remember most of the ladies here did not have any problems with insurance. I think one or two had to battle it out. I live in NC. Here is some information from our database at abbyloopers:

Dr Jack Ludmir

Dr Debbs

I don't blame you for wanting to do something before you experience a loss. It is not worth risking losing a baby.
