Guest guest
Hi Dennis--there's a good bet that the flushing may be caused by the aspartame or whatever gunk they put in diet Coke these days. Artificial sweeteners are a serious trigger to many. I still don't know what to think about the caffeine connection. Several years ago when I was first diagnosed, the materials my physician gave me said that, for some reason, caffeine actually helped rosacea. I'm pretty sure caffeine is a vasodilator, though, but I haven't noticed moderate amounts of it impacting my rosacea. > I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who responded to my question about caffeine in Diet Coke causing my nose to flush. Most of you replied that there is a connection, so I need to decide if it's worth it to drink it. Maybe if I cut back to 1 can a day. I had laser surgery done to my nose to get rid of all the spider veins that I had. Well, it's been 4 weeks and their coming back already. So, I was wondering if I can do something to stop the flushing, maybe it will stop the veins from coming back. By the way, after the surgery, I asked my dermatologist the same question and she said she didn't see any reason to stop drinking the soda. Was she ever wrong! > thanks again. > > Dennis > > >

Guest guest
I did about a shake a day while losing, more now. I think the optimal amount for people in general is about 60 grams a day. So, if you're proximal and drink a 35 gram shake besides a heavy-on-the-protein diet, you ain't gonna' starve. Coffee doesn't really cause weight gain....I drink about a cup a day, but some people insist it messes around with your sugar levels as if it were actually sugar....creates the spikes and the lows which then tempt us to perk back up with more coffee or sugar. A while back I posted that I thought I was malabsorbing fat, but when I quit the Starbucks and French press coffee with LOTS of half and half, I lost 6 pounds really, really fast. Guest guest
How much water are you doing? I do 150 g of protein a day, but I'm in the Maintaining mode. I was SUPPOSED to do 150 g a day in the losing mode also, but was a very bad girl! LOL B

Guest guest
RE: Caffeine When our Doctor requires us to be NPO for medical tests, etc., he always mentions that black coffee or plain tea, is okay. Guest guest
Found the following at http://www.planetroasters.com/faqspics/Tea% 20and%20Caffeine.html and found it interesting (although perhaps biased, given the source). I had always heard that tea was equal to coffee in terms of caffeine. This site says that in dry form, that's true, but when infused with water (which is, of course, how we use it), the levels change. 5oz cup drip coffee 60 - 180mg 5oz cup perk coffee 40 - 170mg 5oz cup instant 30 - 120mg 5oz cup decaffeinated 2 - 5mg 5oz cup black tea 25 - 110mg 5oz cup oolong tea 12 - 55mg 5oz cup green tea 8 - 16mg 5oz cup cocoa 2 - 20mg > I personally drink tea which does not have > near the amount of caffeine per serving then coffee. >>
Guest guest
One more question. My doctor has said 'no caffeine,' but I really need a little to get jump started, in more ways than one. I'm mixing one-third regular to two-thirds decaf and still my wife is on the warpath. Has anyone had problems with small amounts of caffeine? My wife says it's going to irritate my pouch.
