Guest guest
Hi Juli, I have rls for about 35 yrs.Since a few yrs I am treated for it, by a neurologist. A lot of GP's or even neurologists, don't know what it is, or how to treat it. I had Sinemet, that helped me for quite some time, then it stopped working, now I am on Permax, (pergolide) and it helps also. Most of the time that is. Here in Holland we just started a RLS foundation, with 2 rlssers and 2 neurologists. Have fun in our group, ask whatever you want to, Marleen JuliPeck@... wrote: > From: JuliPeck@... > > Dear Group, > I am new here (no, duh), but have been suffering with RLS for 8 yrs. Guest guest
Welcome , What you need is someone who is knowledgeable about rls. The information you receive here and on the web sites will help you help them. Ideally you should see a neurologist. But a caring informed gp is better than an ....(you get the picture.) Good luck and keep us informed about your treatment and its success (hopefully). Guest guest
In a message dated 3/31/99 6:07:39 PM !!!First Boot!!!, JuliPeck@... writes: << Anyway, what's the best type of Dr. to see, neurologist, or someone else? >> Well, since RLS is a neurologic disease, you would think that seeing a neurologist would be the place to start; however, I have seen the following doctors: internal medicine doc, internal medicine sleep doc (two of them), orthopedic doc, psychiatrist specializing in sleeping disorders, and I talked with a neurologist. Based on my personal experience, I got the best advice & treatment from the psychiatrist who specializes in sleep disorders. Unfortunately, I saw him last of all because of the obvious reluctance in seeing a psychiatrist. But, I think what is most important of all is to just start somewhere and most of all, educate yourself as much as possible about RLS and your symptoms and potential treatments (meds, herbs, stress, vitamins, diet, lifestyle, etc.)........then you can help educate your doc too! OBTW, a " vein " doctor was not and will not be on my personal list of those to see! IMHO RAINBOWPED@...
Guest guest
Hi Juli, You asked: " What's the best type of Dr. to see? " I personally feel a neurologist is your best bet. I've been going to the same one ever since I developed RLS. Many doctors don't even know what RLS is or how to treat it. Good luck Meg, N.Y.
