Guest guest
********************** So I made Sue B. a moderator and then took off for over 7 months. But Sue didn't have banning privileges, so she was kind of limited in what she could do. ********************* Yup she did!! and all I could do was write stern emails to people!! And you know just how tough and mean I can get Felicia is kicking some butt and taking no prisoners. She also tried to change the name of the group to better reflect the nature of recontructive surgery and they got into a pissing contest over that change too! Honestly though Felicia, I'm wondering if it isn't a better idea just to start a whole new group. Seems to me the pervs did this in the beginning. Was it a major problem? It would give us a chance to clear out many members who are on longer active, get started on new files, pictures and such and clean things up. Whattcha think? Guest guest
Felicia, If you want help, I can jump in as another moderator. I left the list a while back because I'm done with my plastics, but I'm still interested in the subject. I own 25 Yahoo groups and have been facilitating one sort of Internet conversation or another since 1990, with an Internet email address ever since 1984. :-) Just let me know... juliaz @ microsoft.com Ziobro Open RNY 09/17/01 Plastics 07/22/02 310/130 http://tinyurl.com/4e3h http://tinyurl.com/4e3h> my profile with new photos! ________________________________ From: Felicia Sent: Tuesday, May 06, 2003 6:57 AM To: OSSG-Protein Subject: Re: Plastic surgery list You and a LOT of people were/are unhappy over that list. I'll tell you, out of all of the OSSG lists I've ever been on or moderated, that list has given me the most headaches. I have been on it since it started (a friend of mine started it). It has been nothing but trouble. Somehow, when you get a bunch of people together who have lost a ton of weight, and are fighting for the next stage in their journey, they get snippy. I don't know if it's estrogen release or what, but they absolutely cannot get along. So anyway, Gen left the group kind of dangling. She never was a strong moderator anyway, but then, once she had her PS and was in and out of the hospital for so long the group went to CRAP and was completely wild (see, this post is not completely off topic, Gen almost died after her PS because she was so malnourished from not taking her protein and vites). Now Gen has kind of given it up altogether. She made me a moderator a few years ago and doesn't even read the posts anymore. So I made Sue B. a moderator and then took off for over 7 months. But Sue didn't have banning privileges, so she was kind of limited in what she could do. Fast forward, now I'm back. OMG, I'm in there raising cain with those idiots. The sad thing is, it's the same bunch of little nitpicky, never satisfied, flaming at the least provocation, people. So I've done some banning, changed the rules, changed the look of the group and tried to change the overall image. It is tough, because a few of these people just get in their heads that the PS group is the one where they can lash out. NOPE, don't think so, not anymore. > I left that list after a series of unpleasantnesses and foul language over > political things. Guest guest
This would work, too. You could ban the problem children outright . Guest guest
, What is the graduate list? I keep hearing about it. Is it for after you have lost a certain amount or after you have been a postie for a certain amount of time? Let me know please! If there are several tell me which one has the fewest evilnasties please! Angie in SC
Guest guest
You have to be post-op by a year or more to post, but everyone is welcome to lurk. The link is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/graduate-ossg/join It's important to not confuse this list with the chaotic and quite negative ossg-graduate list. This list is NOT really a part of the OSSG family but people have never been able to figure out how to get Yahoo to pull the plug on that one. Guest guest
Hi all, I have missed this group of peeps. I was on another list for a bit and finally just unsubscribed due to the lack of moderation and the constant drug pushing I felt coming from the moderators as the only answer to recover from issues from this surgery. Drugs work for some ppl..but to make that a total panacea to everything is just well, wrong. I've been online for over 10 yrs..and have grown what I think is fairly thick skin...but some things take the cake. A guy came into the list and kept blasting his wife for not changing as fast as him....while he had lost all this weight and kept talking in detail about how much their sex life sucks and how she sucks and would describe what he'd try to do to the point of being pornographic..not joking. I felt like he expected us to diagnose his relationship. Was WAY out of line yet nothing was done to reel this guy in so I left - yes he was that disturbing. These lists need to have some boundaries. Giving some mental support is fine..but when it gets so graphic where it's obvious the person is mentally and emotionally disturbed and to allow them to go on and on alienating everyone on the list but a few....is just well...not conducive to a good list. I think it's important to allow ideas to come across freely if they are constructive on the subject. Things like politics, religion, etc don't belong and i would hope to see the moderator take charge of anything that got out of hand. " Somehow, when you get a bunch of people together who have lost a ton of weight, and are fighting for the next stage in their journey, they get snippy. " Unfortunately this isn't symptomatic of ppl losing weight...a lot of " online " communication goes this way..ie. mailing lists, boards, emails, chat rooms, etc. Being able to 'hide' behind the internet mask allows ppl to say things that often they would not say in real life. Some ppl have no lives and like to cause trouble or they feel they have no power and come and assert it in a place of anonymity because " they can " in the name of free speech. Those ppl need to be recognized and dealt with. Words are weapons on things like this...and should be treated as such imo. A moderator needs to keep the goals of the group in their head and when ppl deviate from those goals and do not want to conform.....it's time for banning. *gasp* hehe. I applaud any moderator that sets reasonable boundaries and takes charge when things get out of hand. Good luck on the list, felicia..sounds like it's a handful. Guest guest
Sounds like a great list! lol Yeah, I know about the constant fighting on all newsgroups. I belong to several (not related to WLS) myself, and my husband belongs to half a dozen himself. We are old Internet people, like you. In fact, we met on the Internet about seven or so years ago. On one of the cooking groups my husband belongs to, they fight over types of butter, kinds of saucepans, etc. What I meant about the PS list is that they fight even MORE than usual, lol. Thanks for the boost, Sherra. Love your name, glad you're back. Felicia > Hi all, > > I have missed this group of peeps.
