Guest guest
Wow I don't really know, although it sounds like anaphylaxis to me. I would definitely look into what caused it! :-) *Alyssa*Mom of,: (5) Anaphylactic to peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Allergic to all nuts. Sensitive to dairy and soy. Guest guest
Alyssa, I don't know. He's never had a reaction like that before where he swelled up. The most he's ever had in that way is like an eczema, and hives, but not where he had trouble breathing, and all swollen. I don't have a clue. Any thoughts? DonnaShane - allergic to dairy, and pickles. Minnesota Donna- Re: How's it going?, 1/11/2004, 12:00 am Donna, Oh man! Poor Shane! What brought on the reaction? I am glad that he is doing better now! *Alyssa*Mom of,: (5) Anaphylactic to peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Allergic to all nuts. Sensitive to dairy and soy. Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, That's just it, I don't know. It's only happened this one time, and that's where you lost me, because I don't know what anaphylaxis is. I know it's more serious by reading all you guys e-mails, and I always feel so bad for the children that have such severe allergies, and other conditions, where you have to have epi-pens, and where it's life threatening. I've never looked at Shane's allergies as serious I guess, but when he said to me he felt like he was closing up, and couldn't breathe, I was stunned. The breathing treatment definitely helped. So did the 10 mg of Zyrtec. His face is still red, but not swollen, and blue like before, and I can't get him into the specialist until March, so we'll have to just keep blundering along I guess. Guest guest
Hi Donna, These are the symptoms of anaphylaxis What are the symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction? An anaphylactic reaction may begin with a tingling sensation, itching, or metallic taste in the mouth. Other symptoms can include hives, a sensation of warmth, asthma symptoms, swelling of the mouth and throat area, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, a drop in blood pressure, and loss of consciousness. These symptoms may begin in as little as five to 15 minutes to up to two hours after exposure to the allergen, but life-threatening reactions may progress over hours. Some individuals have a reaction, and the symptoms go away only to return two to three hours later. This is called a bi-phasic reaction. Often the symptoms occur in the respiratory tract and take the individual by surprise. If you have an anaphylactic reaction, seek professional medical help quickly. Stay in the hospital for four to six hours to be sure you can get help if you have a bi-phasic reaction. More than one individual's life has been saved because he or she was in the hospital when this second reaction occurred. If the hospital staff discharges you, sit in the lobby and read a magazine. Do not leave and assume you can get back to the hospital on time. How is he doing today? *Alyssa*Mom of,: (5) Anaphylactic to peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Guest guest
How is he doing today? Hi Alyssa, Thanks for the information! He seemed okay today so I sent him to school. The only thing different he had the day it happened was a chocolate soy milk that he had never had before, but drinks the same brand in vanilla, and he's fine. Haven't given it to him since, and won't. Will they be able to tell all this when they do his testing, and to what degree? Thanks, DonnaShane - allergic to dairy, and pickles. Guest guest
Hi Donna! I think that yes, they can test for that. I think though that you would probably have to let them know what to test for, or are they testing for everything? *Alyssa*Mom of,: (5) Anaphylactic to peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Guest guest
Alyssa, Shane goes to Dr. Urban today. He wants to check him over after what happened. I told him when I called they gave me an end of March appointment, so he's trying to get him in sooner. He said when a Doctor calls they take them sooner. From what I understand they'll be testing for everything from environmental, to food allergies. DonnaShane - allergic to dairy, and pickles.
