Guest guest
Ok.. lol..I am jealous! I am almost done lol! I need one more gift, but I know where I am going to get it lol! I am glad that your hubby made it home safely too! Glad it wasn't cancer though in your breast! How scary!!! You sure have been through a lot! How is Caleb doing now? That is scary! *Alyssa*Wife to Mom to - Anaphylactic to peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Allergic to all tree nuts. Sensitive to dairy and soy. Eczema. & - no allergies Heidi popping in... I have been so incredibly busy - I apologize for not participating in the group! I hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the holidays - I had my shopping done by the end of November - heh heh - don't be too jealous!!! :)Yes, Alyssa, we loved the snow (not too much left now!) My hubby was actually in Philly for a week for business and he drove. Well, he had to drive home in the storm, and it took him 10 hours!!!! It should only take 4-1/2. So, we felt blessed to have him home safely. That same Friday he was driving home, I had something going on in my breast (it actually ended up being a thromboted vein - eew! but still getting all the cancer tests - don't think it is, though.) Well, while I was on hold on the phone with my OB/GYN, Caleb told me he was itching like crazy. The previous day he had finished up a round of Zithromax for an ear infection and bacterial pneumonia (told ya I've been busy!), so I immediately went on alert, as he's allergic to Amoxicillin (so that means all -cillins) and Vantin (so all cephalosporins - sp?), and to an eye antibiotic he used (basically all antibiotics he's been on he's ended up allergic to). Well, his hands and feet had huge hives. Then, he said he was cold (my house was very warm), and he laid down on the couch and put a blanket on. This is unusual, so I took his temp, and it was 95.8!!! I completely freaked, hung up with my doc and called his (who was totally nonchalant about it - I am switching docs! He didn't even know one could have an allergic reaction to Zithromax). He saw the doc anyway, and he's now considered allergic to Zithro. Have you guys ever heard of anaphylactic shock causing body temp drop? It scared me to death! Thank the good Lord he hadn't taken it for a full day (it stays in the system for a few days, that's why one only has to take it for 5 days instead of 10). As soon as he said he was itching, I gave him Benadryl, and it was about a 1/2 hour later that he had the body temp drop, which makes me believe that the Benadryl pretty much saved him. So now I have to make an appt. with the allergist to discuss what to do. I personally think he'll need to be de-sensitized to antibiotics - he needs to have some tolerance for them in case of a bacterial infection (I also have antibiotic allergy). And, I want an Epi-pen in case this ever happens again.Anyway, it made me think of all of you, because with Jake, his allergic reactions are not life-threatening - he just gets very, very sick. But it must be so terrifying for all of you to live with anaphylactic shock hanging over your heads. My heart goes out to you!Love you all,Heidi, mom to Cal, 6-1/2, allergic to antibiotics (ugh), and Jake, 4, celiac, allergic to dairy, pollen
Guest guest
Brittany, Thank you SO MUCH for that response. I actually ended up calling Jake's allergist and the woman I spoke with flipped out when I told her what had happened. Basically, she told me I should've called an ambulance, and if it happens in the future, to do so. How scary! Of course, you guys are all used to this anyway, right? We are getting Cal an epi-pen at our January appt. Thanks for the info - you were a big help!
