The scar tissue from your c-sections and tubes being tied shouldn't

be

a problem (they are below the area he will be working in), but you'll

have to check with Dr. Rutledge about the gallbladder removal. I

think it will depend on what he sees when he gets in there. Some

people make more scar tissue than others, but I haven't heard of

previous gallbladder surgery causing a problem, either.

Debbie,

Hi, I had my gallbladder removed the old open way. I asked Dr. R about it,

and I did have surgery on 4/10/00. I know I was his LAST one that day.(I

won't let you all forget! LOL) My surgery did take about 30-40 minutes longer

than normal. Hope this helps some.

I'm in the same boat, though...my mother has an IC too. Her mother never took DES. I've never had any surgeries on my cervix, and everything appears to be normal via HSG. Non pregnant state, my cervix is around 4.1-4.2cm, but extremely soft around 10 weeks into pregnancy (that's when things change).

There is a connective tissue disorder which runs in families, that can cause IC. I don't believe that my mother and I have that, however. I think we just have abnormally functioning cervixes...why, I don't know.

That would be me. My cervix was measuring 2.7cm at 6.5 weeks. My peri did mention it felt like a portion of my cervix was removed, but that has never happened. Mine is basically just very weak.Love, P.

I´m wondering if any of you diagnosed with IC are in the same situation as

mine: I´m not a DES daughter, have never had any surgery on my cervix, my

HSG and histeorscopy do not show any alteration on my cervix. My cervix

pre pregnancy measures 3.5, which is considered to be a normal lenght.

But, despite of all this facts I´ve lost my two pregnancies (one at 23

weeks, and the other at 11 weeks, both with dilatation followed by

innfection and rupture of the membranes). According to my doc my cervix is

extremmly weak and dilates very early in the pregnancy. I´m just wondering

if any of you have the same scenario: no exam to confirm the IC but just

the medical history.

I'm exactly the same Ianda. No surgeries, no nothing, not a DES daughter

as far as I know. Of course there is evidence that DES was infact placed

in certain pre-natal vitamins until the early 70's so it is possible that

we are DES daughters without even knowing it.

Shona,

Thanks. This makes me feel better. Not having any clear reason for my IC,

makes my mind start wondering if I have any other disease that I simply

don´t know. It´s scary. Mainly now, that I´m so confident on my ab cerclage

that is going to be placed at the end of the month.

Ianda,

I have been diagnosed with IC. I lost my last pg at 14 weeks. I am no DES

daughter and i have never had any major surgery on my cervix. My dr hasn't

done any test on it to confirm it.. just he medical history. I dilated

within few hours and it started when i get off my bed (I was on Strict bed

rest for bleeding and spotting).

I can't tell you about my pre pg length since i haven't asked my dr about

it. Guess i will in my next visit.

I wish you best of luck with your journey.

Hi Maha,

Thanks! I´m not ttc yet. I´m going to have my ab cerclage placed pre

pregnancy at the end of November and the plans are to start ttc three

months after that, at least. I´m recovering from my last loss (August,

6th), and I´m quite well most of the time, but I´m still too emotional. Me

and dh decided to wait a little to start ttc, but to do the cerclage now,

so we will fell that we are at least a step closer.

What about you? How are you and what your plans?

Dear Ianda,

I know how frustrating it is to not have a definitive diagnosis of

IC. I wish there was a way to test for it. Just like you, I have a

history of loss that suggests a weak cervix, but there is no other

indication of one. I did have a doctor tell me during a operation

that my cervix took almost no effort to dilate. That was after I had

lost a son. Do you know how your doctor determined that the dilation

ocurred before the infection and ptl? My doctor had that theory, but

he said there is no way to know for sure which came first: the

effacement or the ptl.

On a hopeful note, I did just deliver a healthy baby after having an

abdominal cerclage. Don't know for sure that it is what made the

difference, but I strongly suspect that it was. I didn't even have to

be on bedrest.

Good luck to you,

Licia

ocurred before the infection and ptl? My doctor had that theory, but

he said there is no way to know for sure which came first: the

effacement or the ptl.

On a hopeful note, I did just deliver a healthy baby after having an

abdominal cerclage. Don't know for sure that it is what made the

difference, but I strongly suspect that it was. I didn't even have to

be on bedrest.

Good luck to you,

Licia
