Guest guest
Andy, I was reading the post below, and I began to realize that I too am no chemist and that I have ended up in the emergency room at least 4 times due to consuming sodium bi-sulfites. I get very sick, with vomiting and diarrhea that can last for three days. I need IV's and get mag deficient. However, funny thing is that I can eat all the broccoli and other cruciferous veg's I want, take MSM, and well you get the picture. I cannot drink alcohol (vomiting) and I am sure that the sulfite issue is not the only problem. I must have either none or low alcohol dehydrogenase, although I have not the foggiest where to get that test. I got drunk putting a liquor into a cake a few years ago not from drinking, but from smelling alcohol. I could never drink. After I developed MCS, everything toxic bothers me if I smell it or eat it. I smelled mercaptan leaking in our side yard that the gas company's equipment did not detect. A skunk passing through our yard has made me very ill. What in heaven's name is wrong with me? Two questions: why can I eat high sulfur foods and not tolerate sodium bi-sulfites? Will I possibly have the above nasty experience when I try the DMSA? Third question: is it possible that I took the ten DMPS IV's because they were IV and did not hit my stomach or nose? Fourth question: Pesticides make me very sick. I get cholinesterase inhibition easily upon exposure. Is this a thiol thing? How can I link thiols, sodium bi-sulfite, alcohol, mercaptan, codeine and pesticides and say something about my intolerances that fits into some neat pattern? not possible? It would do me no good to tell my doctor any of this because she prescribed a fibromyalgia drug related to gene 2D6 metabolized substances like " codeine " (also causes me same problems and is listed on my chart " allergic to " ) and really does not " get it " if you know what I mean. I researched the gene 2D6 issue myself at the Genelex website and saw all the drugs that make me sick, and put me in the hospital, listed neatly under 2D6. So I figure either I have a defect in 2D6 or I have some other general issue such as a problem with the PPAR gene, 22q11.2. Can you venture a guess as to how this all fits with the possiblility that DMSA might or might not make me real sick? Thanks, Jannarone PS I know what dot doses are.... I would take a tiny bit of the DMSA in any event. Mercapto > does refer to mercury, yes? Mercapto does NOT refer to mercury. it refers to thiols, a sulfur with a hydrogen stuck on it that is attached to the molecule. Thiols are the sulfur equivalent of alcohols. Ethyl alcohol is in whisky, ethyl thiol is in natural gas as the odorant. It is more commonly called ethyl mercaptan. Thiols smell REALLY BAD. Essence of skunk is butyl mercaptan. Mercaptan as in Mercapto. Thus, dimercapto means there are 2 -SH groups in DMSA, and also lets you know to expect it not to smell very good.
