Guest guest
Oh, you forgot the smell of oiled and waxed wood floors in the grocery store! LOL Marilyn Nice to remember the old days, huh! ;-) Here's a few more things that might jog your memory: Does anyone remember the gumball machines that were kept outside the store, and left there? How about collecting soda pop bottles ,and sometimes place them in a wagon or a friend's wagon and walk to the candy store to get money for the bottles? Remember the smell of the grape crush and orange crush when entering a drugstore? They were in big bubbly like glass soda machines that were on the counter, and you would sit on a stool at the counter where you could turn around on the stool or spin around? How about the wooden fans that would be on the ceiling in the candy store or drugstore or cleaners? Remember cinnamon toothpicks, trading cards of tv shows,Shake-a-Puddin,Fruit Float, punks you had your parents light the end with a match and you could watch the smoke come out of it,and pretended they were cigarettes, but only when the parewnts weren't around? How about the smell of red caps that you put on the pavement and hit with a rock to make them go off?Or in a cap gun? Remember Teaberry Gum,Pepsin gum, waxed lips, mustaches, harmonicas, around Halloween time?Would make the candy store smell so good. What about the big glassed cases that would hold the more expensive candy and the penny candy were in opened boxes at a different part of the store, usually the front of the store or cased in the window of the store and you couls see the display and you had to tell the store man what type of candy and how many you wanted and he would put them in a little brown paper bag, even smaller that the lunch bags in the store now? The combination, musty pool hall/shoe shine/cab co.?Comic books in a barbershop?Comic books that only cost 5 cents or 10 cents?I remember when they went up to 15 cents I thought, that is robbery!!!!!! Now look at how expensive they are! Anyone ever learn how to make those pretty chains with stick gum wrappers?Love and Peace rings?Pumpkin seeds?Jiffy Pop Popcorn in a sealed up foil type pan?JIFFY POP JIFFY POP THE MAGIC TREAT.AS MUCH FUN TO MAKE AS IT IS TO EAT. Or when Cracker Jacks had good prizes in them?Like those little playing cards, like you got in the gumball machines? When Policemen walked the beat, night and day? Paddleball, hoolahoops, sliding down metal cellar doors or running up and down them?Going bump down the stairs on your back side?Making club houses out of big appliance boxes,or having someone inside the box and someone rolling the box around the yard and taking turns? How about those special tents we used to make out of a sheet or blanket thrown over a clothes line?Remember those little push cars and trucks that you sat in and pushed the peddles to make the car move? How about putting a rope around someone's waist and standing in back of them holding onto the reins and pretending that the person in front was a horse and you were in a buggy riding? Well,I could go on and on with all the fun things i played like paperdolls,Barbies, skipper,Ken,Liddle Kiddles,Ginny Dolls,Chatty Cathy with the string that you pulled to make her talk, jacks, one of those balls that you sit on and bounce all over the place with it?Blowing bubbles,or thosed plastic bubbles that you placed on the little straw and they smelled good.LOL How many of you people tried eating a taste of the nice smelling paste in school?Or swallowed Blackjack gum? Well,I think I will take a break and let someone else give some of their memories.Oh and the tire hanging on a rope from a tree, those metal swingsets that came with anchors,so when you pumped your feet so high you could feel the poles slightly lifting up?
