I have Fibromyalgia, as do many others in the group.

I understand that it is connected with .......guess what?........not getting

proper sleep and depression. I was put on Zoloft for mine. Go figure.

They will usually try to find tenderness in the checkpoints indicated for

this disorder. As far as I know, this is the only " test " for Fibromyalgia.

It is one of those things that some people do not believe even exist, like

chronic fatigue syndrome. Actually, I was a little skeptical about mine

being a bona fide disorder until I met a woman who was terribly crippled with

it. She walked with a cane and said that at one point her son had to stop on

his way home from work to feed her. She takes 11 medications.

I thank the Lord mine is not as bad as hers.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, before I was diagnosed with RLS. The

course of treatment for me was Prozac, and rest. I really think I was sleep

deprived. An endocrinologist is I think the best Doc to diagnosis

Fibromyalgia. I wish you good luck. Sweet dreams, Elaine, Malibu

Aren't there some folks in this group that have

fibromyalgia ? I'm sure I remember some were around when I first joined.

I just can't remember who it was (or who THEY were). If you're here

perhaps you could speak up and share some of your knowledge.

Lynne,

The Fibromyalgia Network is a good site, at

http://www.fmnetnews.com/, and try

http://www.sover.net/~devstar/

Yahoo lists a bunch, which is where I got these 2

from. They are the only 2 I've been to. I don't know

if I have fibromyalgia or not, but from what people in

the group have said after I listed my symptoms, and

from what I gathered from the above sites, it sounds

as if I do have it. I have a doctor's appt. May 14th,

so we will see what he says!

Sleep tight everyone!

A great site to check out just about anything is http://askjeeves.com.

It lets you access multi search engines. I looked up fybromyalgia -

also chronic fatigue syndrome- I know someone who has both, as well as

rls. Her doctor told her that any one of the three conditions can

result in the others kicking in - oh goody, more fun in the future!

Actually, Sue, the fibro does make me nuts because the pain gets so

bad that I can't stand it. These doctors just don't know about fibro,

I have some who say it's in my head, others say it's a form of

rhumatism. There sure are a lot of people who have it.

Wish there was something that would help. I can't take a lot of pain

relievers so I just go to bed. That's where I plan to spend most of

today. Marilyn

Hi Sue :-)

So sorry to hear that Mr. Fibro (as our dear Heidi calls it :-) is paying you a visit. Have a look at www.immed.org and specifically,

http://www.immed.org/publications/fatigue_illness/pub4.html

There, it expalins how fibromyalgia might be caused by a mycoplasma infection. I've known several people who have addressed their fibro in this matter (antibiotics and/or anti-virals.) In fact, in additon to my dermatomyositis, my rheumy also pushed on those pressure points or trigger points and told me that I had fibro, too. After being on Minocin for three years, I don't have any of the muscle pains or fatigue any more.

Don't worry, you're not a mental case :-) I found that antidepressants helped me a lot. Pain brings on a chemical change that affects our mental outlooks....and antidepressants can help to normalize things while you are getting better.

Take care,

Connie H.

One more thing....if your doctor won't prescribe the Minocin because

he/she says that it will agravate your 'might be Lupus'....you can

use Doxycycline instead of the Minocin (minocycline). The doxy gives

lots of people an upset stomach, but not if they take it with a meal.

Hope this helps,

Connie H.
