Saw my doctor today and want to share the experience:

Does anyone know why enzymes in the liver can be elevated? Is it the

diabetes or the meds? Anyone care to comment please!

Well, today, I saw my family doctor and took my huge folder of

diabetic information with me. I laid out the medicine research I had

done. I laid out the info on the tests which diabetics must have

done. I laid out my questions on metformin. I laid out everything.

When he came in, I asked him " Do you have time to discuss my concerns

with me or shall I make another appointment for your time? " .

He handled me very well. He said he was impressed at the way I was

handling this disease and all the info I had found. He kept my blood

pressure (Lisinipril) to still taking 1/2 tablet and the lipitor to

every other day. He agreed for me to try one metformin (500mg) in

the mornings. He could not find where he had ran a A1C test, which

is very important every three months. He wrote out prescription for

that test along with my urine and potassium tests and liver test. My

liver enzymes were a bit elevated. That bothered me since diabetic

meds can cause liver enzymes to elevate, but he couldn't remember

when he started the metformin in the hospital. I weight 241 and am

disappointed. Thought for sure I would be in the low 230's by now.

Will keep trying to lose weight and really don't want to lose it too

fast.

My dear hubby, Kenny, sat nearby snickering at the way I laid all

this out to the doctor. I just told him that I am taking this very

serious as this is my life we're talking about and my future of

avoiding diabetic causing problems. Kenny later told me how proud he

was that I knew more than he realized. :)
