Guest guest Posted December 16, 2003 Report Share Posted December 16, 2003 Therefore, to me it makes more sense to have the cerclage placed after the pregnancy has been established and after you have determined that the fetus is healthy. of course, that is a very personal decision based on your religious and personal views. you can have genetic testing done at 12 weeks and at 14 weeks have the cerclage placed. ....except, some of us have experienced in the past, noted cervical change much earlier than 14 weeks. My cervix changes texture, and begins to get extremely soft around 10-11 weeks. I had to have my vag cerclages put in much earlier than anticipated because of it, and there had already been some changes. My doctors told me that had I waited, I would have lost the baby (and at that time, I was 13 weeks). Just wanted to toss that out. I think in some cases, maybe it is preferable to either have the cerclage placed very early at 10 weeks, or prepregnancy. I don't think there can be any genetic testing done at 10 weeks however. If you have a pre pregnancy ab cerclage and you have a genetic test done ar 12 weeks and the baby has a problem (or if you miscarriage naturally during this time) you can have a D & C performed. You do not need to be opened again. Just after 14 or 16 weeks, if there is a loss you will have to have a c-section. In my case, I had to have the cerclage pre pregancy or very early in the pregnancy cause my cervix gest extremely softs and starts to dilate around 9 weeks. In my last pregnancy, I ended up having miscarring at 12 weeks because of an infection. Of course, it seems I´m prone to them, but if the cervix was closed, the bacterias would´t be able to go inside the uterus.
