Guest guest
GREETINGS -- I have been using Lantus for about eighteen months now (switching to Lantus and Humalog from Humulin N and R) and found out I had to go through a trial and error process to establish the correct dosages of both insulins. This allowed me to normalize both my insulin dosages and my blood sugars. Once the Lantus was normalized it became posible to skip meals without causing blood sugar jumps. As an aside here Lantus is an excellent basal insulin meaning it can satisfy your body's insulin needs during fasting periods and while asleep. In my case (I an a Type II (6+ feet tall and weighing 235 pounds)) I use 30 units of Lantus per day and about the same volume of Humalog -- depending on what I eat. You should not expect Lantus to lower elevated blood sugars resulting from the food you consume (that is the job of the bolus insulin or oral meds that you use) or any overnight increases in your blood sugars (dawn phenomenon). If helpful I could either post the process here or you could contact me at my EMail address for the information. wambo1941 > I am on Lantus and first time insulin user.
