When you get there, then you can see if you want to lose more or stay there. Those charts are really old ones. They've added 15 pounds to those since. Plus, it doesn't take into account people's different builds. You just go where you want to go. Guest guest
Cyndi, did you just switch from sugarbusters? I think I saw you over there. I had you on ICQ but took your name off because I thought we were on different plans. Did you not have any luck anymore. I lost so much on somersizing and then quit losing. I though I would try atkins to see if it works. I lost 3 more and stuck again. I may have to except where this body seems to be staying....LOL We'll see tho....Jean
Guest guest
Cyndi, I know how you feel about see those tiny weights, I say shoot for 200, then 180, then 150, then lower as you loose more this way you have reached so many goals And that makes you feel great. Guest guest
Dunno if this will help, but... There was no way that I could tackle every food issue immediately. So first I removed all gluten & casein plus other foods that tested at three and above (on a scale of 0-5), with one exception (rice). I ignored the 1s. The 2s that could be easily removed, were removed. The others I moved into rotation over a period of weeks. My son takes Creon to aid digestion, especially of the mildly problematical foods. (Ask Dr. B for a prescription if he didn't give you one). After we became accustomed to the diet (about 6 weeks), I removed the remaining #3 (rice). It was just too hard to do it all in one fell swoop! It's been almost a year now. The diet is second nature to my child (aspergers)& me, and it has dramatically improved life for both of us. That hated list of test results actually saved us trial & error - if I hadn't know that rice was an issue, the results of a gfcf only diet would have been far less dramatic and evenkeel. Gfcfrecipes has info on egg substitutes and some listmates in this group will come on board shortly - I'm sure - with some helpful substitutions. Welcome aboard. > Hi all, > I'm and have a 14 year old with Aspbergers. We are re-trying > the GFCF diet. We were on it about a year ago for three months with > no observable results. Guest guest
Hi Lynn: I was 5'2 " and 237 lbs. when I had lap DS on 2-23-01. I now weigh 199. I knew that I would never lose the extra 100 lbs. and keep it off any other way and, most likely, would continue to gain a little each year. I developed sleep apnea within the last year before surgery. It took awhile before I realized what I was dealing with, but that is the only problem I really had because of my weight. However, that one problem made me realize that at 39 years old I was probably in for lots more in the future as I age and my weight continued to increase. WLS is a huge decision though and not to be taken lightly. Good luck. Nina > I am new to this group and am just starting. My heart goes out to all off you. However, I felt the only difference between them and me was how far the disease (obesity) had progressed. Now, I do know that I don't know what it is like to be 350 pounds, but I can imagine the pain because I know how painful (physically and emotionally) it was to be 267. So even though you may be a " light weight " , the surgery may be very appropriate for you if your weight has continued to rise. Guest guest
Lynn: Don't discount yourself. The fact that others have more serious problems right now than you do does not make yours any less serious. You either have or are at very high risk of having serious co-morbidities. These include but are not limited to type II diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, congestive heart failure, joint problems, arthritis, etc.. In an article my wife read me last night a doctor, I think possibly Dr. Anthone of USC or possibly Dr. Gagner of Mt. Sinai in New York, said that patients who reached a BMI of 40 or higher virtually never can lose weight and keep it off by normal means. The diet and exercise solution which works so well for those "thinner" patients simply will no longer work for you and me. So if you are legitimately a 41 BMI you qualify and need this surgery. Don't apologize for that. That's an interesting switch, isn't it? All our life we've been apologizing for being too fat. Now you are apologizing for being too thin. For about ten minutes, I was actually worried I was " too thin " for something!!! Because of my high blood pressure/shortness of breath upon exertion, I elected to have the DS. Dr. Keshishian in Delano, CA will do it 6/19. Yes, there are complications with DS. Yes, they can happen to anyone. Or not. There are no guarantees either way. It's true that the rate of complication is lower for those with lower BMI/s. For me, however, the complications associated with morbid obesity are a sure thing, 100% guaranteed. I have decided to risk some probable short-term misery, possible but highly unlikely long-term misery, instead of definite short-term death. It's a very individual decision. You are doing the right thing by doing lots of research. Don't rush into anything, but do keep an open mind. Keep reading this list and let us know what you eventually decide. He said when you get to the 40 bmi mark, it is almost impossible to get the weight off and KEEP IT OFF. My bmi was 45 and I saw how I had been at 35-40 bmi for a few years, without any major symptoms and then balloon to a bmi of 45! I know it isn't easy because you think 'hey, maybe I can try again...' and people may say 'oh, you aren't THAT fat - why do something so drastic?' (some people actually told me this). You may question yourself more about justifying the procedure but if you QUALIFY for the surgery --- you definately could benefit from it. I saw my mother's example and did not want to be 60, morbidly obese and unable to walk around without being in pain. all the best,
Guest guest
Hi Lynn- I too am 5'2 " , and once upon a time I was 230 -- now I am 386, and 49 years old. The last time I was at 230 was just after doing a year or so of Optifast, and the time before that , I think I was a couple years out from College. In fact, I think I was at that weight for a few years while I was working retail-- on my feet 8 hours an day and doing a fair amount of lifting, toting and pushing. When I moved on to paralegal work and sitting at a desk, I started to creep up. Don't wait that long. If this surgery had been available twenty years ago, my life would have been completely different! My BMI is 70, I am having a panniculectomy to get some of the fat from the lower abdomen out of the way before the " big " surgery.-- That is 2 major surgeries in the same year-- not something I would recommend. But If I don't do this, I will be in a wheelchair inside the next 12 months from arthirtic knees. Just because you aren't in the same desperate straits I am, doesn't mean you don't need to do something before you end up painted into the same corner. You are headed in this direction. Do whatever you need to to keep from getting here! nan E. -- Lynn Gann flnana2@...> wrote: > I am new to this group and am just starting. My heart goes out to all off > you.
