Guest guest
Alyssa I'm feeling TIRED today! Kinda dizzy like. Lack of sleep last night is my problem! Couldn't shut my brain off! Sam is doing better, but I dropped back breathing treatments b/c he was doing SO much better and now he is starting up again. Guess I'll just have to kick it back into high gear. His Dr. wants to do oral steriods if he doesn't kick this cough sooner rather than later (and I don't want to start that again this year)! Thanks for asking! Guest guest
Good for you, Becky! Now aren't you glad you're on the " other side " ? As for the congestion, I didn't have it, but do often because of allergies. Folks have recommended the liquid sudafed (look in the children's products, and be sure the dose is enough to help an adult), and Afrin (but be careful not to use too much of this one. It can have what's known as a rebound effect. " Hot showers help, too, or even hot baths. But be sure someone is either with you or nearby. You might wanna put a shower chair in the stall, as sometimes folks get dizzy when they try. You don't wanna wind up back at the hospital with a gashed head because you swooned. Actually, it's the steam that helps. That's why I hope the humidifier is, too. Good wishes to you. Cammie > HI folks, > > Though I'd drop by and say hi. How's everyone doing? Guest guest
Hey Becky, My surgery isn't until next Wed. but I laughed at your comment about your tongue being trapped behind closed jaws. My ortho gave me some lip stuff at my last appt. and I asked what it was for..she said, well, you do know you won't be licking your lips for 6 weeks. I just about fainted! That somehow, never occurred to me. (and I'm a doctoral student..sigh.) ANYHOW< after that blonde moment passed, I practiced all day breathing with closed jaws, and trying not to lick my lips. It was so weird i gave it up. I hope I survive the real thing next week. Thanks for posting your experience, it's good to know your swelling is minimal. As for the conjestion..this may seem a bit obvious and I am definitely not a post opee, but have you tried Vicks? Or Zygam? (Homeopathic nose spray..) They both help me when I have a bad cold..I wonder if any others have found help from them? Hope you heal quickly, Alix port , eledog2001 wrote: > HI folks, > > Though I'd drop by and say hi. Guest guest
Wow! It sounds like you are doing wonderful. That in itself is wonderful. Jaleah is constantly dripping moucousy blood from her nose...wouldn't be so bad but yesterday she had a ton of friends drop by. When I went to the familyroom tocheck on her, she had this little line of goop from her her to her lip - poor thing she couldn't feel it at all and none of her friends were brave enough to do something aobut it. Ouch! She felt a bit ugly (understantment!) because boys were there too. Oh well, we'll see if they really have unconditional love in them enough to come back to cheer her up - LOL!!! J's congestion was really bad with the trumpet tubes in her nose the first 24 hours after surgery. Since then she just drips. Her OS did suggest Oceans (a saline spray) to help with congestion although J hasn't used it yet. J's midline is off also and on her left side, it is a bit open. The OS will band her on Sunday. Her freedom of movement is almost over for a bit. So happy you are doing so well. Checking in HI folks, Though I'd drop by and say hi. How's everyone doing? Jaleah, you ok? Have we heard from Kathleen yet? I don't quite have the energy to check all the posts...sorry. I'm doing ok right now. I woke up with bad congestion this morning, though. Some nose bleeding. Guest guest
Professor Klump has left the building!! Yahoo. It's so weird, though, knowing my lips are almost back to normal but I can't feel them. I carry tissues with me everywhere now. The drooling is crazy. My congestions is pretty much gone now. I've gone through so many q- tips, I should buy stock. That and a baby aspirator work great. See ya! Becky > > Hey, you mean I have a twin? Another Professor Klump look- alike...this is great! Guest guest
Hi all, Just poking my nose in quickly to let you all know that I'm alive and kicking. And I thought I'd pass along some advice/tips/whatever to those of you ladies who are, like me, struggling with weight/body shape/sugar levels, etc. Last week was my birthday, and for a gift, my mother signed me up with Curves. If you don't know what that is, it's a sort of gym for women only, run by women. I've seen all shapes and sizes of ladies in my week of working out, and they all are having a blast! You go around a circuit of hydraulic weight machines (strength training), interspersed with what are called Recovery Stations, where you can walk, run, dance, or otherwise keep moving (aerobic training), changing machines or stations every 30 seconds, for 26 minutes, then do stretching for 4 minutes. For a total workout of 30 minutes. They recommend you do this 3 times a week minimum. There's fun music playing, and every 30 seconds you are told to change stations - and every 7 1/2 they have you take a heart rate to make sure you are working in the right intensity zone. I've found the ladies in charge to be caring, helpful, and totally non-judgemental of my current state of unfitness, and very encouraging of my goals and dreams of getting in shape again. And even though I've only had three days of working out, and therefore can't expect to see any change in my weight or body shape, I've noticed that my blood sugars are easing down, settling into generally the low end of normal - and they stay there even on the days when I don't work out. Before I started, I'd talked to my doctor about it, who gave me the go-ahead to adjust my glyburide as needed based on the results I see when exercising. So - the morning after I did my first workout I had a low, and I cut the med in half - and have kept it at half. Ever since, 4-5.7 every pre-prandial test. (Americans, I'm Canadian, so multiply my mmol numbers by 18 to get your mg/dl equivalent... 4-7 is considered acceptable here.) Except for my last supper reading, which was 6.3 - but today wasn't a workout, and we had a church picnic for lunch so I had far more carbs than I should have... Anyway, it seems to be working for me. If you'd like to check Curves out, they have a website at http://www.curvesinternational.com. You can see if there is a Curves near you - they are in the States, Canada, Europe, I think even Australia and New Zealand but I could be wrong about those latter... If there is, feel free to drop in and talk to them - have them tour you around the facility, explain their program, read their magazine, etc. Mom and I did that, and they didn't give us any pressure to join until we were ready - Mom actually hasn't joined yet due to some outside constraints, and they were very kind about that, too... I gotta say, I'm feeling really good these days, and just thought I would share that with you...
