Hi ,

I alway keep lifesavers in my purse. I also keep them in my car. My

nutrionist told me they are great for Hypos because the sugar hits your system

quickly. She told me to take 4 of them. To me, it is a treat to have them

since I

don't eat much other candy. Hopefully, this helps.

I recently got some tabs from walmart, i think they were called " redi tab "

very cheap and works very well. Came in assorted flavors (grape, fruit punch and

orange) dissolved very quickly aqnd tasted like koolaid, much MUCH better

than those horrid BD ones!

Actually, any type of candy with fat in it (snickers, m&Ms, etc) is bad for

treating hypos. The sugar is slowed down by the fat and will not absorb as fast

which is dangerous, and you may end up having to use more to treat the candy

thus adding fat/calories to your diet. There are many alterntives for treating

hypos. Fruit Juice (orange, grape, cranberry, pineapple, apple etc),

gatorade, half a sugar soda, hard candy (peppermints, lifesavers etc), frosting

tubes,

packets of sugar or sugar cubes. Basically you are looking for straight

sugar, no fat so your body will absorb it quickly. Personally I feel less ill

after

the hypo when I use glucose tabs, those now come in many flavors like grape,

rasberry, orange etc.. Also keeping peanut butter/cheese crackers around, or

nuts are great for a little snack when you are getting low but not actually

getting hypo, or I use those kinds of snacks preworkout.
