I would like to report my experience with Modifilan, an algae based

supplement.

During the last 10 months I have been following Andy's protocol,

along with saunas and an alkaline diet. My progress was quite good,

shown by the hair tests and also by my subjective observations. What

has been a problem though is my poor bowel habbits and an inability

to sustain a proper bowel flora. The main symptoms were constipation,

incomplete emptying, green colour, small stools etc. Strong

probiotics helped this (notably Bifa -15 along with others in large

quantities) but it was obvious that something was 'killing' my

flora. The fact that ALA is excreted from the bowel meant that there

might be some mercury leached during excretion. My symptoms were

definitely worse after each cycle.

I had researched the possibility of doing colonics and ingesting

activated carbon and chitosan. Chlorella was out of the question due

to Andy's position. Colonics are good but they mostly help in the

initial stage. For me at least they are not a practical way of

cleaning the bowel after every cycle. But I have seen references of

the need for them after DMPS injections ( the Metal-Free booklet).

My experience with carbon was neutral to slightly positive. The fact

that carbon adsorbs almost everything did not feel very encouraging

and basically it means to me that it might not be able to effectively

pull mercury from the bowel if there are other substances present.

Chitosan is interesting and produced more positive results. Chitosan

definitely pulls mercury and fats (mercury is lipophilic). References

can be found in usenet of a serious Japanese study. My subjective

conclusion was generaly positive with three negative points: cost,

the fact that chitosan is produced from seashells and could lead to

allergic reactions and the fact that it interferes with stool volume

and consistency sometimes producing constipation.

About 1 1/2 months ago I came across a supplement called Modifilan

(A web search should produce the home site). It is an extract of a

certain algae which, among others, has been used by the Russians to

detox Chernobyl victims. The company selling it claims it pulls heavy

metals. I decided to try it. One needs to take it 2 times a day (I

take 6-8 capsules/time) on an empty stomach. I have been taking it

for about 1 month and my experience has really been positive.

Definitely improved bowel habbits, good stool consistency, volume and

colour and some positive systemic effects too, better energy and less

water retention.

The facts that mercury is mainly excreted from the bowel

(especially when using ALA) and that the bowel is continuously

building new cells to renew its walls means to me that there has to

be an effective way to remove mercury from this area to improve the

health of the bowel. Although I respect very much Andy's work, I

believe that he has not researched enough this area (even though he

clearly states that mercury destroys the bowel flora). If there is a

substance to effectively absorb heavy metals from the bowel it has to

be very useful in toxic victims. I suggest that he does some

research. For me (and I am not in any way connected with the producer

or any dealer of the product) Modifilan was very positive and I

definitely recommend a trial to anyone experiencing my symptoms. I

would think that a 15 day trial is adequate.

This is my second message about mercury removal in the bowel. My

first message, for those who are interested, included a number of

references from alternative medicine which point this subject.
