Worthington Foods, " Prosage Vegetable and Grain Protein Roll "

Contains small amounts of eggs and dairy products. Kosher dairy. Mostly TVP

(soy protein and wheat gluten). No preservatives. Contains all sorts of junky

things: hydrogenated oils, carrel color, etc. It comes in a long roll. It can

be sliced but mostly is a substitute for ground beef. When you see the carb

count you'll see why I decided to try it. Never again. Well, someone else may

like it fine...I guess the taste wasn't so bad. It gave me migraines, so

there's something junky in there I'm reacting too. It doesn't fry very well

but it makes a decent meatloaf. It has the texture and color of cooked ground

beef. It has very little flavor. If you add lots of spicy food too it, it's

okay.

Just adding cheese wasn't enough. You can find it in the freezer section of

any store carrying fake meat products.

Soyfresh Unsweetened Soy Beverage

In the refrigerated section in a plastic 1 qt bottle. $2.99.

|All the soy milks I've ever seen are at least 10 grams of carbs per cup (8

oz). Many are as high as 25 or 30. This is for unflavored. Here's one that's

truly unsweetened. (Another unsweetened is made by Westbrae) It

tastes...well...unsweetened. But it's a good clear taste and will be

excellent

for cooking with or adding to recipes with other ingredients. I tried heating

some up and adding stevia and vanilla but it was only so-so. I'll try again

when I can find my bag of carob powder. Regular milk seems to have about

12-13

grams of carbs per cup. So this product is great for anyone wanting " milk "

but

can't have it because of the carb counts. It's also perfect for vegans and

people avoiding dairy for any reason. I've cut out all dairy since my allergy

to it seems to be coming back. This product is a godsend to me right now.

Yves Veggie Ground Round

This stuff is great. It is like browned lean ground beef. It doesn't really

taste like meat but it has a good texture and serves similar purposes. You

can't really make burgers or meatloaf out of the ground round but it's

wonderful in casseroles, stirfries, and other dishes. More protein per pound

than beef!

El Burrito Mexican Food Products, Inc., " Soyrizo Meatless Soy Chorizo "

Vegan. Mostly TVP (textured vegetable protein). It is a vegetarian version

of a Mexican pork sausage (it's " gushy " not firm). This product is soooo good

it's

amazing. It's a bit spicy but even my sensitive palate can handle it fine

mixed with other things. Use it in place of ground beef or sausage in stir

fries,

Mexican food, etc. A little goes a long way. The catch...yes, there is a

catch...it's hard to find. Trader Joe's carried it for a few months and

stopped because it wasn't selling well enough (TJ's does that often). I called

up El

Burrito and they told me I am one of many people who called looking for the

product. It's being carried by Whole Foods in Southern California and they're

in negotiations with WF of Northern California. They plan to take this

product

nationwide...it's already in various stores. I called the Bay Area

distributor

(fall 98) and they're calling me back with a list of local stores that have

it.

They are coming out with a similar product called soy taco (same thing with

different spices) which Trader Joe's will sell under their own label (it's

out, it's yummy, and it's even lower in carbs!). They also plan to make

veggie

Polish sausage and Italian sausage. These are the only vegetarian products El

Burrito makes, besides things like salsa.

Yves Veggie Cuisine, " Veggie Deli Slices "

Vegan. Kosher parve. No fat, preservatives, or nitrates. Mostly soy protein

and wheat gluten. I love this stuff. It looks like baloney and can be used

as a

substitute for it. I can't say if it tastes like baloney though cause I

haven't had the " real thing " since the 1970's or so. It's really nice fried in

oil or

nuked with cheese. It's fine cold but if you're not used to the taste of soy

products, you may not like it. I've tasted several other brands and this

one is by far the best. You can get it in Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and other

health

food stores.
