My thought was to give the children the blood test first, then if cmt shows up (cmt1, etc.) you and your mother would know what you have also without taking the tests. That how I found out what type cmt I have, my granddaughter was tested.

Guest guest
OH Paddy, welcome to the group. Your letter sounded like me before the surgery…I think I would get a second opinion, because I bet the lymph problem would be helped. Yes, there would probably be some surgical problems…post op..but nothing insurmountable. For the protein…go to www.vitalady.com http://www.vitalady.com/> and ditch the extra calories/carbs. They can be killers. The bariactric/nutrition specialist in my surgeon’s office has lost about 40 lbs using the shakes, so there is no reason you cannot. I know about the chair…lost mine after the surgery, thankfully, but lately I have had to use the walker again, which I despise. I am so glad you found us! PS…Vitalady has samples of shakes, so if you hate one, you might love another, but personally I think ProBlend 55 Alpine Vanilla is heavenly, though others swear by some chocolate thing. What is that one called again? Hmm….i will have to look. ~grins, imagining Vitalady choking on her choklit shake in indignation and horror~ Welcome to the pervs! Jeanne from Georgia I'm new here Hi... I don't know if I have any business here and you can cancel me if I am intruding. I haven't had the bipass surgery because the surgeon my doctor referred me to refused to do...Reason? Because I have lymphedema which would be compromised with any surgery. My Lymph system which isn't functioning properly would wind up putting fluid in my lungs. So the doc said " No way! " So, I have been trying desperately to lose weight on my own. I have decided to try the protein mix. I bought some at GNC and haven't minded it in a fruit drink of banana/frozen strawberries/orange juice/milk smoothie. What I'd like to know is HOW to incorporate the protein into a working force in losing weight. I have ALOT of weight to lose,(about 250 lbs.) am counting Weight Watcher points (32-37 points daily). I have NO exercise for I use a wheelchair to get around the house. I haven't been out of my home in about 4 yrs. except to the doctor's which I go to as little as possible. Agaain, I apologize for my intrusion. Paddy (from Arkansas)

Guest guest
Hi. My name is Tiff. I am 48 have had T2 for 3 years now. I am married am married with 2 grown children - a boy & a girl. My hubby is on diasability retirement due to Parkinsons. I find it a challenge to prepare meals. Hubby has difficulty swallowing drier meats, so I cannot broil meats or saute them in a pan and add a light sauce. Also, most baked meats are out. Prior to my diagnosis, we ate alot of pasta and also seafood. Now that hubby cannot work, we are on a budget and seafood is quite $$$$. Hubby is a bit of a picky eater - he does not like darker fleshed fish, does not think a salad or a sandwich is a suitable dinner, does not like hot (canned) tunafish (so tuna casseroles are out). I work fulltime, so I really try to make the same dinner for both of us. I am maintaining control with a low - moderate carb diet - 100 - 150 gms per day - plus meds & exercise. I also have controlled high bp & controlled high cholesterol. I have 2 greyhounds. Walking them is one of my daily exercise routines. So I am always on the lookout for main dish suggestions. Guest guest
Hi Robin, First of all, have you had your mechanics checked? I mean have you had a scope? Do you know if you were transected? How much is bypassed? Have you been checked for an enlarged stoma? Stretched pouch? It's easy for us to blame ourselves when we regain, and most of the time, frankly, it is because of bad habits, but NOT ALWAYS! That's where I'd start. Okay, say you've had your mechanics checked, and you don't have a staple line disruption or enlarged stoma, and so there's nothing anyone else can fix. Go back to basics. Protein. Always focus on protein. I'm a firm believer in protein drinks, although a lot of people don't believe in them. I suspect you've been indulging in too many carbs. The Carb Monster and/or Sugar Monster gotcha! I'd recommend detoxing with a protein fast. For me, this means several protein drinks a day (made with water only, NEVER milk or fruit, especially during the detox process). Focus on protein. NO CARBS. NO SUGAR. The first couple of days will be hell. Sorry, I'm not going to, er, sugarcoat it for you. You can start adding in veggies that are low sugar, low starch. This means things like broccoli, greens. Stay away from peas, corn, carrots. If something tasttes sweet, forget it. If it's starchy, right now it is not your friend! NO FRUIT! Yes, I know this sounds communist and unAmerican, but you're trying to detox from sugar. Yes, it's natural. So's hemlock, black widow spider venom, and tobacco. Natural does not mean good for you. Your body does not know the difference between fruit sugar and the stuff in the five pound C&H bag. Also remember that honey is sugar. I strongly recommend you stay away from milk. There's a lot of sugar in it, and it isn't even clear how well we absorb the calcium and/or protein. Pay attention to your cravings. The things you might find yourself craving are things you will need to be very wary of. Then yes, go back to basics. Protein first, always. Then veggies. Now, this does not have to be boring! You can get creative with how you prepare your food, but always read the label. Look out for sugar hidden in the darnedest things. I also strongly recommend you get thorough labs done to check for any deficiencies. If you want, I can give you suggestions on a good supplementation routine. Hang in there! You can do this! We can (and will) cheer you on, but unfortunately, you're the one who's going to have to do it! Robin Zemel wrote: > I am 1 1/2 year post op, and not doing so well with my weight.
