This is based on concern that children less than 6 months of age may be exposed to toxic levels of mercury. Thimerosal is a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent containing ethyl mercury (most human data on mercury toxicity is based on research with methyl mercury). The FDA estimates that there are over 30 licensed vaccines/biologicals containing thimerosal. I was searching for mercury in antibiotics and came across this. Before I became aware of my chronic illness I became intolerant of thimerosal in my contact lens solution. SJ
