Guest guest
Hi Diane and welcome to the list. I am wanting to learn more about the pump myself. You have a lot of experience being diabetic 43 years. I hope we all see a cure very soon. What kinds of complications have you had? Beth > I just joined the list a few days ago and thought that I would introduce myself. I am Diane. I have had type 1 diabetes for 43 years and have been on an insulin pump for the last 7 years. I have 2 daughters. I have had some of the complications related to diabetes. I have seen alot of changes in diabetic care over the years and hopeful for a cure someday. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. I think we all wish for a cure. everyday they are getting closer. They have now identified the gene that causes Type 1. Now they just need to see if they can change it. They have also linked High fructose corn syrup with obesity and perhaps a leading factor in the rise of Type 2. They have actually cured diabetes in a lady with type 1 as well as in mice. The lady who has recieved this new treatment has been free from diabetes for 3 years now. They have done this by transplanting pancreas cells into the liver. The liver then functions like the pancreas used to and produces insulin. They are still doing trials with this. I don't understand how much of the pancreas is needed so I don't know if you need the entire organ but they said donor pancreases are hard to come by and you need to be on anti rejection drugs for the rest of your life. They are also looking into the posiblility of getting these cells from other sources like stem cells. There are a couple of other things in the works including immunisations to prevent at risk people (like my children) from ever getting it. So I really believe it won't be too long before they have it cracked.
