Guest guest
I read the " Drugs in the WAter " piece with great interest. As a landowner (28 acres, mostly timber), I made the commitment to never use pesticides or chemicals on my land. I longed for a piece of land my whole life and I feel it is a sacred trust. I have kept my promise. Yes my pasture has weeds. My war against rampant blackberry brambles will probably never be won but I'll never use roundup. I try to pull them up by hand a little each week. My lawn is far from perfect. I don't spray my apple trees. And every month I have to put out traps for the mice in my barn and then relocate them to the National forest some distance away, so I don't have to use poisen to kill them. It makes me feel more peaceful. I've long worried about where all those chemicals, pesticides and poisens go. In Western Oregon our water table is very close to the surface. I've had " experts " tell me there is no danger at all using pesticides, that a couple of feet of dirt filters all that stuff out. I don't believe it! I get my water from a well and it does have several filters on it. Anything I put on my land would seep down into that water table, endangering not just myself but all of my neighbors. clean water is very important. , Oregon
