Guest guest
i just saw this on the JDRF site: Notify screeners if you are wearing an insulin pump and explain that you cannot go through the METAL DETECTOR or be handwanded. does this mean that the pump would be damaged or that it would just set the things off? i've never heard anything like this before. rach

Like the ones at shopping center doors, the anti theft device can cause a host of problems. Hugs, Marilyn (they are given cards to prove their statements. Guest guest
I am not sure why you can't go thru the screener. I have flown several times in the last 12 yrs. since I got my pump. I do always tell the person working that I have one and I will show it to them. I di have a young guy ask me if I could take it off and I fudged and said no. I have friends to be stopped and searched and then them let me thru with all kinds of diabetic stuff. I do carry them in the original boxes and I also carry dr.s notes as well. Guest guest
hmm. can a pump go through the x-ray screener, like if you took it off? i am wondering if i should make the move to the pump one day, and if my lifestyle is that conducive to it. i know of this guy from my nurse educator, who is traveling all over the *orient* - china, india, etc. i wonder how he does it. i wonder what he does when it gets over 86 Farenheit. he can't walk into a pharmacy and get cartridges out there either. he's been gone two years! you know, being type 1, i feel very relieved. it's more dire, when you skyrocket you skyrocket - but they thought i was type 2 at first. i find shots a lot easier than the pills, diet and exercise program i was on. then again, of course, i would...since those things wouldn't do it for me. and pills soooo *discombobulate* me. my tummy doesn't like pills and my brain never registers them. you know, *did i or did i not just take a pill?* lol! rach > Hi , this is the same for pain patients, their pumps can shut down if > they are stalled in a magnetic field. I am still sitting there with a glass of water, and asking myself if I did take the pill or if I just thought I did. Old age does not come softly! 58 shouldn't be that old, either! Guest guest
This worries me too. I take a lot of pills and realize that it could be bad if I don't do it right. I take 3 1/2 pills for blood pressure in the morning and 2 1/2 at night for blood pressure. My dad had a stroke and my granddad on my mother's side had a stroke. I don't want to do anything that would cause it to happen to me. Lota

Are you on an 81mg enteric coated aspirin? This kind dissolves in your intestines so as not to bother your tummy. If you have ever had a stroke, you should ask your doctor about Plavix. It pays to be very careful! Hugs, Marilyn Marilyn Moderator for Diabetic_Recipes dnevessr@... Opinions expressed are solely my own and should not be mistaken for Professional advice. Guest guest
Marilyn, I've never had anything resembling a stroke but my sister's left leg went numb the other day. She said that she took 6 enteric aspirin (320 mg.) and the numbness went away. Hugs, Lota
