Candi,

My family and I eat out a lot too. Buffets are particularly difficult as

you cannot order the food your way, without added extra that may not be

apparent. If you can avoid foods that are sauced or glazed. Sometimes you can

ask

if there is some plain meat or chicken or fish before they drench it.

If all they have is SweetNLo, then bring your own sweetner for the coffee

unless you can drink it without.

Most of all at a buffet, watch the portion size. I know the temptation is

great to overeat, but as I tell my husband, it isn't a requirement!

If you prefer some other kind of artificial sweetener, get in the habit of

carrying some in your purse. I used to carry (purse) a few packets of

Splenda at all times until I recently discovered the pill form of Splenda

available overseas. Now I carry a purse pack of those - much handier. I

also carry a few teabags in my purse.

Im a type one so it would be different with me (I would also take more

insulin) but you might want to consider taking a walk after a dinner like this

and

be sure to drink plenty of water. Also try to make the healthy choices you can

, and if you opt for something that is high sugar try and eat a smaller amount

of it.

First of all, this is what I have found so frustrating some times, foods that

shouldnt have to much sugar in them sometimes do, and run a BS up. Sometimes

even if I eat the same dish at the same restuarant, on a different day it will

do different things to my BS. Also I didnt think about the caffeine, but I

seem to remember that caffeine somehow inhibits the bodies ability to use

insulin, maybe decaf would work better?

For me in eating out, most of the fast food places will have a nutrition

guide that you can get that will give you the basics of what they

serve...and for the buffet...(my favorite place, but not my BS's, lol) stick

with things that can't be altered that much, like salad, and then just

REMEMBER portion control, even if you have to bring your own measuring

cups...take their spoon and spoon it into your cup rather than straight onto

your plate.. most of the buffet's that I have been too also have menu's that

you can order off of instead of attacking the bar, someone posted earlier

that " all you can eat " is not a challenge...lol, I loved that one..
