Guest guest
GREETINGS -- I have been a Type II diabetic on insulin for 10+ years, but have only had good control of my blood sugars for about eighteen months. Up until the time I normalized by blood sugars and insulins I had contracted several forms of neuropathy and had almost had to have my foot amputated as a result of Charcot Arthropathy. One form of neuropathy started in my toes and worked its way up my legs to just below my knees before I was able to get it under control. I also contracted Gastroparesis (a form of autonomic neuropathy) that I have subsequently seen recede. I discovered Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution (book) and found out how neuropathy is tied to uncontrolled or poorly controlled blood sugars. Once I got my average daily blood sugars below 120 mg/dL and modified my dietary supplement program (I am a supplement junkie)good things started to happen. Although my left foot is deformed (Charcot Foot) its deterioration stabilized after eighteen months of misery. The neuropathy in my legs is slowly receding and my sense of feel in my legs is slowly returning. Although I am sure that the Gastroparesis is still lurking in my body I have not had a somach emptying problem in more than a year. My most recent A1c was 5.2% -- down from a high of 7.8% before I got things under control. I share my experience in hopes that others can benefit from it. wambo1941
Guest guest
hi wambo. i'm a newbie type 1 diabetic. it's encouraging to hear that a person can stop some of the complications and even see some of things recede. i was wondering if a 7.8 had been a fairly typical a1c number for you over the years? and like what you might think the best balance is - re. how low to aim for v. the risk of going too low? rach > GREETINGS -- > I have been a Type II diabetic on insulin for 10+ years, but have > only had good control of my blood sugars for about eighteen months. > Up until the time I normalized by blood sugars and insulins I had > contracted several forms of neuropathy and had almost had to have my > foot amputated as a result of Charcot Arthropathy.
