Should I change > my whole style of eating? Should I > cook different for the whole family > or what? Everything depends on what you were eating before, . If you were eating the wrong way, it will be wise to change your meals a little. But there is no hurry, nothing changes very quickly. You just take your medication as prescribed and carry on eating as you did before until you get some idea of what is required. You didn't say what treatment the physician prescribed? Did he give you any instructions at all? Do you have another appointment? Often the reason why newly diagnosed diabetics get sent home without any instructions is that there is so much to tell, it takes time and most of it you have to learn yourself but also because diabetes develops slowly and there is no real hurry. If you had been just on the edge of a big change, then I feel sure he/she would have given you more information. > I am so lost. Please help. I have > cried for days now that I know I > have diabetes---I just feel like its > the end of my world. , you are not lost! There are a lot of people here to show you the way. And it is not the end of the world, life goes on just as before - you only have to make a few minor adjustments to your routine and you will be able to manage this little problem with ease. There are far worse things than diabetes and with your heightened health consciousness you will probably be able to avoid having most of them without even especially trying. If it is any consolation to you, , you probably don't feel any worse than any of us felt when we had the news. In one way feeling bad is justified because diabetes is not something anybody could feel good about but on the other hand, after a few days you will cool down and come to the conclusion that feeling sorry for yourself isn't very productive. Try positive thinking! You are in a far, far, better position than all those millions in the world who don't even know that they have diabetes and are therefore not getting any treatment for it. You have the advantage of knowing and you can start looking forward to an exciting future learning a lot of new things about yourself! > It is the 4th of July and I am sitting > here at the computer crying---I think I > am depressed!!!!!!! You have reason to feel depressed, , but there are plenty of people around who are crying on the 4th of July who don`t have diabetes to blame it on so if it is only another reason to cry, then it is not one of the worst kind of reasons. Don't forget, we are all in this together!

Guest guest
Hi , Don't worry, you've discovered it in plenty of time to ward off all those horror stories you've heard. As everyone has been telling you, it's not a fast-acting disease, and it's highly managable. I've had it for 4 years, and the only thing I've really changed is to eat the way I already knew I should and get more exercise. Join a Mommy & Me play group and you'll get plenty of exercise. 8-] They've made so many strides in diabetes management since your grandmother's time...or mine too, for that matter. Or even my father's time. It is so empowering to take charge of your own condition, as you'll see. And all the scary parts will fade in no time. The first few times I took my blood glucose, I was shaking, but now it's like brushing my teeth -- just routine. And best of all, you will be starting your family off right with a proper balanced diet they can live with and be healthy. Think of it as a challenge, not a defeat. You have all the wonderfully helpful people on this site to guide you. And the internet is overflowing with information. You won't be in the dark for long! Hang in there, . Help is on the way. Guest guest
-- Hi ! my name is . I'm 29 years old, and have had diabetes for 27 years now,my daughter is turning 11 and has had it for 6 years. (we are both type 1) I won't say the road has been easy, I too suffer with depression, and take medication to help. I think joining this group will make such a great difference! It certainly did for me! Everyone is so supportive, helpful and caring, it's a great little family here online. As well as a great pool of resourses! If you ever want to talk, you can feel free to message me at kewe818@... (yahoo instant messenger) Take care! It will get better! ~ - In alldiabeticinternational , " paingirl12000 " wrote: > Hey Everybody, > I am new here and thought I would come on and say hello to everybody. > I am 21 years old and my doctor just told me that I have diabetes. Guest guest
, I feel so ashamed now that I was sitting here crying. I know there are lots of people out in this world that are alot worse than me and I was feeling sorry for myself. Its just that My grandmother had died from complications from diabetes and then for the doctor to tell me that I had it---I just flipped out and needed somebody to talk to about it.I have to go back to the doctor tomorrow and see what kind of treatmemt he is going to put me on. He had told me to come home and write down my diet and my readings. I got a monitor. Here are some of my readings: 7 am--290 12:30 noon--302 4:00pm--214 8:00 pm --348-----That was yesterday. I felt horrible all day yesterday. What do you think about them numbers? I was told they were high, I didn't get much infomation from my doctor when I went to him, I am going to ask questions when I go back tomorrow. Thank you so much and I look forward to talking to you again. > > > I have a two year old daughter and > > I hope this don't mess me up real > > bad. Guest guest
Hello Ellen, Yes, I am glad I found this group...So many nice people ,,, I have been sitting at the computer today just answering all the messages from you nice people. Yes, I shake a little when I stick my finger to check my sugar, but I guess that will go away huh? Yes, so many things have changed since my Grandmothers time. I was just down in the dumps when I wrote that last post. I am usually a happy person. I am going to see the doctor tomorrow and I am going to ask him what kind of diabetes I have. Thanks -- In alldiabeticinternational , " philippaschuyler " wrote: > Hi , > > Don't worry, you've discovered it in plenty of time to ward off all > those horror stories you've heard.
