Mittensdf,

The only medicine I know that has worked for me, and me only is Insulin

Therapy. I have had no side effects to it. I¹ve been a type 2 diabetic

since 1999. Started on pill therapy, and ran the gamut from Avandia,

Metformin, Glucovance, and some of them worked for a while and brought my

levels down. But if I got sick or stressed or something changed, my glucose

would go out of control and they would just up the dosage. I asked to be put

on Insulin, because I was tired of the side effects from the meds. Again

for myself only, Insulin therapy has been fantastic.

Hello to everyone!

I was diagnosed alittle over a month ago. Been trying to obtain as

much knowledge as possible. I start my first diabetic class tomorrow

evening. Trying very hard to eat right and change the bad habits.

Level has been 140's to 170's without medication.

I was started on metformin and had diareahea for two weeks. Second

med was Avandia which caused face to break out badly and swelling.

The third med I am supposed to take is Amaryn. I started out with a

good attitude to lose weight and get control of this, but now I am so

depressed and have much anxiety. I am afraid of the meds and the

side affects. The doctor did have me on 2 500mg of metformin which

he admitted may have been too much. I weight around 240 lbs. and

know I must lose the weight, eat right and take med.

There has been allot of stress in my life for the past ten years and

dealing with depression and anxiety has been hard.

Is there any diabetic medicine that does not have severe side

affects? I also have to learn how to count the carbs and watch the

blood pressure. My blood pressure med was cut in half as I have lost

some weight.

Thank you for inviting me to the group and I hope to learn from all

of you how you manage this disease. Right now, I am thoroughly

confused and want to get back to the good attitude.

Thank you for listening. Copied some recipes. I haven't been a cook

for years as the hubby is the great cook in the family. :)

Thanks Joe for the advice. I will probably discuss with the doctor

if I can go back on one pill per day of the metformin and give it

more time. I am proud to say my levels today without pills is 117,

114 and 107. Don't know how I did it! But I am bouncing but staying

well under 200. Thanks again and I will have to consider it if this

pill stuff doesn't work. You were the only one replying to my

problem and I appreciate it.

" All over " is relative. Your BG will

be stable at times (e.g. before a

meal) and rising or falling rapidly

at other times (e.g. during or after

a meal).

> Is it the goal to keep them pretty

> close to the same number all the

No, I never heard of that as a goal.

Your BG will go up and down, you

cannot expect to have it remain the

same all the time, nobody's does.

> Last night before bed BG was 119 ...

Nothing wrong with that.

> ... and this morning before breakfast

> it is 131. I haven't eaten. I don't

> know why it went up.

It went up because your liver released

the last of the sugar it had stored

from the day before. Try taking your

morning reading while you are still

in bed and you should get a more

reproduceable reading.

> And after eating it still goes to

> 150 or up. I'm new to trying to

> control this and eat right.

Nothing wrong with that, either. It

all depends on what you ate and how

long after you took the reading.

Try taking readings only before you

eat and you will get a smaller range.

> It's just very confusing.

Well, Joan, you have only been

diagnosed a month now. You can reckon

with about six months before things

stabilize and you see the light! If

diabetes was so straightforward and

everybody got the hang of it

immediately then none of us would be

here and there wouldn't be a Yahoo

ADI group!

Regards
