This topic (serious hypos) has critical enough potential ramifications that

I can't answer " if I were YOU " . . . I can only answer for ME based on my

own circumstances and experience and you must do the same.

For myself, if I am aware of my hypo (and certainly if I'm " with it " enough

to do a test), I just treat the hypo (for me, how aggressively I treat the

hypo depends on the symptoms) and wouldn't consider calling an ambulance

for myself. In other words, for ME, if I were " capable " of calling an

ambulance, I wouldn't. During a serious hypo, my judgement is seriously

impaired and I am confused . . . I'd treat the hypo and I'd err on the side

of over-treating vs. under-treating in those circumstances and fix the

balance later (because, from my own experience, if I under-treat, there's a

possibility that I might never get the chance to " fix " anything ever again).

When in a " normal " state, I would work on the " why " (if you use insulin,

you must learn the activity curve and peak of that insulin as well as the

effects of food, activity, your usual schedule/habits, etc.) If you live

alone (or are alone at the time), it is even more critical to " treat now

and ask questions later " as there is no one else around to rescue you if

you misjudge and go unconscious.
