My suggestions is to get a meter, and see what works for you. Everyone is

different, and testing a lot will teach you what you can and cannot eat,

and in what amounts.

It doesn't have to hurt. With a Freestyle meter, you don't have to test on

your fingers, so there is virtually no pain.

also very small and easy to take anywhere, i love mine! i would also suggest

calling your local hospitals and signing up for a diabetes education class,

that will give you a great starting place expecially on the nutrition aspect.

as a Type 2, I was told 45-60 per meal and told it was better to keep it

around 45, saving the extra 15 incase I needed a between meal or bed time

snack...some folks find that less works for them, best thing to do is invest

in a good set of measuring cups, read your labels for serving size..keep a

meter on hand for testing and see what foods work for you and what foods

don't...YMMV...there really isn't such a thing as a diabetic diet, it is

basically the same thing that is recommended for every one.. eating

healthy..

Do yourself some research here on line...ask lots of questions of your

doctor, of your dietitian, etc... ask away here as we all will be happy to

help if we can..

You could always contact the American Diabetes Association, or talk

to a dietician. I wouldn't ask the doctor though. You could even

ask a nutrionist. I really don't know what else to tell you,

considering I'm still learning myself. I do wish you luck though.
