my little boy is 11. He has had seizures all of his life

(stated when he was 3 weeks old). He has had to take many many pills all of his

life too. On top of having epilepsy he had a birth defect of his kidneys and

bladder that required surgery to " rebuild " his insides. He had his first MRI

as a baby and has had many since that time. He even got a copy of his MRI

pictures that he got to take to school for show and tell. As well as having

twice yearly EEG's which he thinks are fun too. He thinks they are cool and

said

to tell you that the MRI is kind of fun and nothing to be afraid of. And to

top it off everyone at the hospital is always VERY friendly and makes it more

fun!

The good news for you, is that is now going through

puberty...becoming a little man...and his last EEG in December showed NO MORE

SEIZURE

activity!!! He weaned off of his depakote (he was taking 4 pills, 3 times a

day) in

February and he has been seizure and headache free ever since. The doctors told

us that many many little kids get to " outgrow " seizures as the hormones from

growing up tend to change the make up of the brain, making the seizures go

away....

Good luck with your MRI, you will do fine!!!

Hi ! Is that really you? Very cool. You write very well.

That is very cool that you got to read your story in the senate

building.

I used to take lots of pills too. That is yucky.

Do you know about insulin? You may have seizures because your body

does not make the right amount of insulin.

If that is true, then the pills you take now may not be best.

There may be something better than the pills to stop the seizures.

I think that is why they want to test your blood for 5 hours and go

in the MRI.

It is good they are testing your thyroid. I had mine tested too.

Then I had to do something like MRI. That was creepy, but it was ok.

Write again. Your gram is cool!

-Hi ,

My name is Vicki...I read your letter and was so touched...you sound

like such a grown up.I have also followed your story through your

grandma's letters. I understand how you feel about MRI's, I have had

to have quite a few of them myself, not for the same reasons as

you...I had a bad accident 6 years ago and messed up my neck and

shoulders...but like you I do not like them. So I have found that if

I go in ...close my eyes...and think of places I'd rather be(like the

park, beach,or somewhere like that)It's not quite so bad!! You are a

strong boy and can get through anything you put your mind to. So good

Luck and God Bless. I will keep you in my prayers.Lots of hugs Vicki

you are such a brave little man. I just wanted to tell you I

cried over the way you have been treated at that hospital. I admire

you and your grandmother, you both make me very proud. Your

grandmother will make sure that you are treated right I know with my

heart. If you need to talk we are all here for you.

Hugs Debi~~*~~
