Guest guest
I don't know your situation but is it at all possible to change your pcp? When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I switched doctors a couple of times until I got what I felt I needed, someone who understood me and my illness. My first doctor at the time just seemed like he didn't know what he is talking about. (something he confirmed when he accidentally gave me 50 units of regular when he meant to give me 5units. He misunderstood the syringe) It wasn't an easy thing to do either. My husband had to take a day off work just to sit on the phone and fight with the HMO. But I am so grateful that he did it. It is true that it sometimes takes a little while to get your numbers down so try not to be completely discouraged. Being diabetic is very frustrating at times so try not to beat your self up for your feelings. Try to relax and get a second opinion if possible. Guest guest
Mara, I know exactly how you are feeling. Being shoved around the bush all the time. I'm still dealing with it myself. If you don't like your PCP's opinion, go to that endocrinologist. That, or go to a center that specializes in Diabetes. I'm doing that on the 16th. As for trying to feel better, I wish you luck with it. If you feel tired, try orange juice, keep some chocolate near by, or even keep a Frappicino around. That really wakes me up. That, or there's a drink called Y2Stinger. It's an energy drink, and that helps as well. Good luck!! Jo > I'm so discouraged. I saw my pcp today and I had a total meltdown. Guest guest
Hi Mara, Can you take things one day at a time? I really do understand your desire to get things under control but it takes the time it takes. Are you exercising? That really helps me to lower my numbers. You did the right thing by reaching out to others in the same boat as you are in. We understand your frustration. You are not alone in this battle. We are here with you. Seeing a specialist is a good idea. Let us know what you find out from him/her. Hang in there, it does get easier. Vicki From: Mara I'm so discouraged. I saw my pcp today and I had a total meltdown. I do what I can with exercise and it is not enough. At this point any exercise is raising my levels. But I'm still working at it. I also have a neurological condition and am unable to walk more than a couple of steps. so have been doing a pedal exerciser with arms and legs, but not cardiac at all! I'm also doing the sit and be fit programs. But it's just not enough. I'm hoping to be able to get to start swimming, but need to find an aid first who can assist me with dressing, etc. I'm working on all of this. Thanks again for all the support! It sounds like she is taking your feelings a little more serioulsy. Also I would say getting a second opinion with the endo is a must. In the mean time, I would suggest trying to exercise (walking ) twice a day and really watching the diet so you can feel the best you can since your having trouble with meds. Hope things get better for you!!

Hope things get better for you!! Yes, I have talked witht the nurse and she is very supportive. I only WISH I could walk! I have cerebellar ataxia, so my legs do not cooperate. Will get the other opinion in about 2 weeks. Best part is that i have found a pool at one of the local hospitals and they are trying to find an aid to assist me with dresesing. It would be GREAT to get in the pool! This is my best hope at exercise which I so desperately need! Mara
