It's ! I found out last Wendsey day I am getting my pump. The hunks if

there are any at my school don't won't to go out with some one who has a

medical condition. I don't have any friends with diabetes. I love kids to

but not that much. I would love to talk sometime.

Hi , I was wondering if you ever asked your dietitian or diabetes

doctor if they knew any kids your age that would maybe be interested in sharing

time or experiences with. Possibly even your local diabetes society. Ours is

full of very nice young women who would be very helpful I am sure, you might

want to check with yours. Maybe your Mom or Dad have some ideas. I am so

thrilled you are getting your pump! That is just wonderful. After you get it

and

get used to it, let us all know how it is going, okay? About the hunks, did

you know there are many athletes with diabetes? You may have some at your

school! Has there ever been anyone in the nurses office when you went to test

or

inject? Maybe they are diabetics, too. Honey, it is not anything to hide or

be ashamed of. It is just a fact of life for some of us. The fact that you

are here, communicating with adults on their level speaks well for you. You are

obviously an intelligent, well brought up young lady. You have done your

parents proud!

Do you belong to any after school groups? How about youth groups at church?

It is fun when you can do things in big groups. I actually preferred that to

one on one dating when I was your age. My daughters belonged to several

groups in our church and they always had something going on.

How do you handle your diet? Do you pack a lunch so you know exactly how

much insulin you need? I imagine that must get pretty tricky! Do you wear an

ID

that states you are diabetic and on a pump? I think that is really important

and am sure you do. Are you out for the summer now? My grandkids are all

out and looking forward to camping. We have a coach (RV) down at a Thousand

Trails park that we leave set up like a second home. We just get away whenever

we want. It is fun to just stop for fresh food needs and everything is there.

Lots of sports for the kids, they are avid swimmers, and never get enough of

it. Well, , you take care, have a wonderful summer. Remember if you

want to chat, I'm usually here ;-) Hugs, Marilyn

Hey,

I only know of two other diabetics in our school one is girl and the other a

boy but all to young for me. I have not asked them but I might the next time

I go to the doctor. I wear a two medical ID's one is a necklace that has my

name Insulin Dependent and my phone number on it the has just diabetes on it

but it is a bracelet. Most of my friends are adults I have one at school

that is my age though and she is my best friend. Our school nurse and I arre

really good friends. Is it a bad thing to have friends that are not my aage

because my parents think I need to have friends my age but none of them like

having a diabetic for a friend.

Love Lots,

Hey Rach,

I am 17 and a senior in high school. I want to be a paramedic. I have been a

diabetic since I was 15 months old. That was funny about what your friend

had you do. I would like to get to know you better. I have to go for now.

Bye,

That is so sad! Why not? Is it because they are afraid that you might go into

a hypo around them and they won't know what to do? (Like '

character in " Steel Magnolias " .) Or is it because you can't do a lot of the

things they like to do, like spontaneously going out for burgers &c.?

Try not to be too down about it. Once you get to college, things will be

easier.

Re: [alldiabeticinternational] Normalizing Lantus Insulin

i've got a friend who is a med tech and another who was a paramedic.

just inspires a person.

re. the locker-crushes: omigosh, yah, totally too much! hehe. but i

can get her back now by reminding of her of all her locker beaus!

hehe.

anyways, i don't know what is wrong with people. my friend is pretty

(great clothes too ;>), smart (went to med school to become a

doctor), was on swim team...more together than any *normal* person i

know. diabetes doesn't change any of that. duh!

when i wasn't diabetic, i certainly wasn't on swim team. although, i

did have to show up to check out my friend's swim crushes...*roll

eyes*...oh, there IS something to be said for getting out of high

school. lol!
