Penny --

Congrats on those inches!

Occasionally, I also measure for bra band size -- you know, where the band of

your bra goes. Just so I have a clue, when I'm ready to buy a new size.

Measuring is a great idea. I measure every Monday, when I weigh myself. I

also keep a chart, so that I can track my body fat percentage (you only need

hip and abdomen -- which is different fro waist -- measurements for that).

The basic idea of measuring is to keep the tape measure snug but not so that

it's cutting in (making a dent in your skin), and keep it level to the ground

(except when you're doing an abdomen measure when it might not be parallel to

the ground).

I hope this helps. If I've just managed to confuse you, let me know, and

I'll try to be clearer.

Wow Penny....5 3/4 inches, that is AWESOME!!! :o) My instructor usually

measures everything on your list except the calves, but I have not idea what

the correct measuring protocol is!!! LOL Again, congrats on the inches

lost...that is sooo wonderful!!!

Gail,

The part about a abdomen comfused me, but I am not worried aobut it, I think

I did it right by the way you told me. So at least if I didn't lose pounds, I

lost inches. :o)

Congrats Penny!

Hearing the news was inspiring. Haven't been able to weigh today still on

road but I did feel good enough when I tried on some suits and dresses and

they fit so nicely. Even the bras are fitting better. Went a little spree,

hubby is going to shot me. lol.

Been sticking closely to diet so I can weigh Wed. at home. I think I will try

to measure especially my ankles cause I would love to get rid of these tree

trunks I have for legs.

I apologize. I just should have posted what I meant. It was late. I was

tired. Mea culpa. OK. Measuring your abdomen can be tricky, if your waist

is like mine. (I don't know if menfolks have this problem... hmmmmm?)

Anyway, I digress.....

So, the problem starts with your waist (OK, MY waist, but let's not get

personal here). My waist isn't parallel to the ground. It rises in the

back, along with my butt. (A sad fact I hope to eliminate on this WOL.) When

you're measuring your waist, you should measure the spot where the waistband

of your pants or skirt naturally falls, even if it's not parallel to the

ground. Make sense so far?

OK. Not the abdomen measure. You should draw the tape around you across

your belly button. Keep the tape parallel to the ground. It won't

necessarily be snug all the way around. If you're rump (or something else, I

suppose) rises, then the tape may not follow snugly and parallel. opt for

parallel here. The only reason I can see to take an abdomen measure is if

you're keeping body fat percentage numbers.

HTH.

I started measuring on the 20th October, and I know I lost inches before, but

it still shows a loss of inches yesterday.

On induction I only lost one pound. But I lost considerable inches. I should

have started measuring then. But my clothes fit so much better. Now they are

roomy so even if the scale does not show any movement the tape measure does.

Just my experiences.

I wish I would have measured in the beginning too, I also had that same

experience with my clothes. I feel like if I measure I can tell if I am

losing also, gives me 2 different ways to check, or obcess about, depends on

how you look at it!! :o)

Sure does, but I knew I was loosing inches by the way my clothes fit me.

It's just great to button the waist of a band that was tight. Now is roomy
