Guest guest
I don't know if this is an old wive's tale or fact, but I was told years ago, that when someone is dying, the last faculty to go is the hearing. This was in reference to not " calling them back or to stay " because this plea from the loved ones was so traumatic and the patient might " fight the inevitable " . I too believe my Mom could comprehend occassionally, and would react. She was in the nursing home and her eyes were closed more than they were open. Her sister, whom she hadn't seen in several years came to visit from another state. When Aunt Kathleen walked in and hugged & kissed Mom, Mom's eyes opened. What a struggle it was to open them. Then, Kathleen moved from one side of the bed to the other and Mom's eyes followed her! Then, a few tears slid down her face. The nurses said it was just an automatic reaction to dust or whatever in her tear ducts. I didn't believe them. We had been told that Mom's brain cells were practically all gone (I don't know how they could say this. This was in 1989 when they knew even less than they know now and no tests were done on her brain). Any medical people have any insight into the hearing???????
