Hi Dave-

A friend sent me this link:

thyroid/adrenals

I've seen quite a bit posted recently on this and other lists about

low thyroid and adrenals.

Can anyone please tell me the best way to determine if your adrenals

and thyroid are low? Are there specific, obvious symptoms?

Thanks,

Dave

When I change thyroid homone dosage, I feel the difference within 8

hours. However, it seems reaction time varies from person to person.

I've tried Armour and Synthroid (right now I'm on a mix of the two)

and I feel better with mostly Synthroid. I get lots of ear noises

(whooshing, ringing, etc.) with mostly Armour.

As a side note, I've done the temperature charting that he recommends and my

temperature was all over the place. So I shelled out the money and did a

24-hour saliva test for cortisol. The temperature chart was right on the

money, my cortisol is way low. Save yourself the money and just do the

temperature charting. I'm convinced it's very accurate. As I've done

specific adrenal support vitamins and sublingual adrenal cortex extract for

three months I'm seeing the recovery pattern on the temperature chart start

to form just like he says it will do. Very interesting stuff.

adrenal purposes.

When I started the supplements I immediately started feeling better.

When I started the adrenal extract I started seeing symptoms disappear.

This is not a relevant list for adrenal support. The C and B5 are

moderately helpful AS ADJUNCTS TO OTHER SUPPLEMENTS NOT ON THAT LIST.

Try adrenal cortex extract, DHEA or 7 keto DHEA, pregnenolone, and

whichever of licorice, sarsaparilla and ginseng you do well on.

Andy-

Thanks to your previous postings which I brought to my doc visit today, he

totally agrees that we back down on thyroid support and add the adrenal stuff.

I see words like Adrenal Glandulars, Adrenal Cortex and Whole Adrenal. In

looking at the descriptions on these, I am really confused. What he wants me to

take is the one with the pregn, dhea, etc. and the added stuff such a the B5,

etc..

Can you go out on a limb and recommend a good product that has all the stuff?

Kathy asked me a question, she's entitled to a response.

C and B5 are listed as essential for the adrenal cascade by several

biomedical M.D.'s. Even my Prescription for Nutritional Healing book lists

them at the top as essential vitamins for adrenal recovery. You may not

agree, but it's pretty common info in the health world.

Oops a-

My previous email got away from me!

Thanks for taking the time to post your progam for me and referring the Future

Formulations site.

A friend had just emailed me www.adrenalfatigue.org which lists the program and

all the products that are part of Dr s program. I can't take fillers in

supplemements and this liquid is really my only option. I notice that is has

25% ethanol in it which I know how to dissipate that off....I'll call the

company and make sure first.

Anyway, are you taking just the liquid or are you also taking some of the other

complimentary products like the Adrenal Exhaustion formula? Also on the rest of

the supplements, is that all in one product or do you take them individually?

  • 1 month later...

(Yes - I'm emailing on New Year's Eve - husband is playing guitar at a gig

and I couldn't go cause I'm sick : (

Dr. says, " Someone who suffers from water retention may have

weakened adrenal glands. Fluid retention is often a symptom of a deeper

problem. Retaining excess fluid can result in weight gain (as much as 20

pounds), muscle fatigue, flu-like symptoms, high blood pressure and even

stroke. Because over half of your body consists of water, maintaining

a proper balance of this crucial element is essential for your health. Your

daily intake and output of water is a complicated process, but even though

you are losing water through urine, bowels, etc., your body is able to keep

everything reasonably in balance. "

How your body retains fluids:

1. The balance of fluid inside your cells and surrounding your cells is

maintained by sodium and potassium.

2. Sodium and potassium levels are balanced by a hormone called aldosterone

which is produced by the adrenal glands.

3. The aldosterone produced by the adrenals causes the kidneys to hold on

to sodium from the urine and retain it within the body while causing the

kidneys to eliminate potassium.

4. When the adrenal glands become overworked or depleted, they produce less

aldosterone and sodium spills out into the urine, along with the water that

is needed to hydrate the body.

5. Less aldosterone is present and the body doesn't eliminate enough

potassium from inside the cells (too much potassium is dangerous and can

interfere with nerve and muscle function).

6. Your body responds to this dangerous potassium situation by diluting and

forcing more water into the cells (swelling), which causes fluid retention.

Sugar and adrenal stress:

Sugar and simple carbs (junk!) put stress on the adrenals. Your adrenal

glands help regulate your blood sugar levels so you can see how eating too

much refined sugar can cause bloating and water retention. I know this one

first hand. Even the slightest amount of refined sweeteners causes me to

gain a couple of pounds of water weight.

Diuretics are not the answer here. Most diuretics work by inhibiting

aldosterone, which causes further dehydration and weakening of the adrenals.

More symptoms of weak adrenals:

Excessive sweating or perspiration with little activity.

Lower back pain and/or knee weakness or pain, especially on one side.

Dark circles under the eyes.

Dizziness.

Muscle twitches.

Low blood sugar.

Heart palpitations.

Sensitivity to light, difficulty seeing at night.

A craving for salt (this is one sign I have had for a long time).

Low stamina for stress, easy irritability.

Excess mood responses after eating carbohydrates such as pasta breads and

sugar.

Chronic infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, yeast).

Low blood pressure, lightheadedness upon standing up.

Tired but wired feeling, poor sleep.

Cravings for sweets/carbs, intolerance to alcohol. (I noticed I did not

want carbs much after starting the adrenal and would even say that I have

been satisfied with much less food).

Premature aging.

Dry unhealthy skin with excess pigmentation.

Lack of libido.

Cystic breasts.

Tendency to startle easily.

Responding negatively to thyroid hormone.

People that are hypothyroid often produce 30-40 times the normal amount of

adrenaline that normal people produce. This extra adrenal production

contributes to insomnia and sometimes to a racing heart, and also the

chronic fatigue syndrome. Supplementation with the adrenal can allow the

system to rest for awhile. I'm still not sure if the adrenal is still

needed continuously after the thyroid system becomes balanced and the

adrenal glands become rested. This is an area I'm still studying and will

have a lot more answers over the course of the next few months. But I do

know that using raw adrenal glandular is completely safe to take, even long

term.
