Guest guest
The standard is 70-110 according to my diabetic specialist, doctors and diabetic dietician and surgeons. And no question is stupid. 8)
Guest guest
I have been told that, since last november, the standard has been lowered to 70-100. When I was diagnosed, my fasting glucose was 269 - nearly as far from 100 as from 110. ;-) Regards, > The standard is 70-110 according to my diabetic specialist, doctors and diabetic dietician and surgeons. Guest guest
Jolene, I'd probably go with educator's recommendations. Or the ADA's. The best thing is to ask your educator or doctor, just to be sure. Jo > How do i find out which set of bg levels to use? The joslin site > says one thing. Guest guest
Try them each in turn and see what works for you. And there is no such thing as a stupid question, except perhaps one which you have in your mind but don't ask. Definitely not a " stupid question " but tantamount to: How can I lose weight? or How do I get from Chicago to New York? That is, there are lots of different answers (depending upon the source and the frame of reference) and many/most of them are probably " right, " at least to the extent that they may all get you to the same destination, but in different ways or different speeds. Pick one that you are comfortable with (maybe start with the one from your educator?) and go from there to start your own experience curve. Good luck! Guest guest
GREETINGS -- The recommended blood sugar levels you refer to are in a constant state of flux with their latest " lowering of the bar " happening earlier this year. As I understand it the purpose of the lower numbers is to help in the early diagnosis (and treatment) of Diabetes. Joslin Diabetes Center is a large multi-site treatment center that develops its own treatment guidelines and clinical practices based on its experience and with assistance from advisory boards. You are likely to find that most primary care MD's are still using the higher numbers whereas the endocrinologists have switched to the more conservative (lower) numbers. A check of the acceptable cholesterol and blood pressure numbers will show that they have also been lowered recently. In my case (Type 2 for 10+ years, on insulin, and with a history of diabetic complications) I use a fasting blood sugar of 100 mg/dL (5.5 mmol/l?) and try to keep my average daily blood sugars at a level that will keep the complications from getting any worse (< 120 mg/dL). These numbers work for me, and it took quite a while to work out what they should be. wambo1941 > How do i find out which set of bg levels to use? The joslin site > says one thing. Guest guest
What are the levels then, that we should be looking at? Not being diagnosed yet, with Diabetes, I'm trying to find the levels to follow. I know I'm on the high end of the fasting scale every morning, except this morning. I was over it. Guest guest
Thanks, guys for all the advice. I am going to go by the ones my Educator gave me. But, I am having troubles with Dawn effect. My fasting numbers are higher in the mornings >120. However, If I walk first thing in the morning they come right down to where they should be between 90 and 115. I dont understand it. Got any other advice on this. > > > How do i find out which set of bg levels to use? The joslin site > > > says one thing. Guest guest
Thanks, Bruce. I love that response. My sister is hypoglycemic and she said the same thing!!! > > How do i find out which set of bg levels to use? The joslin site > > says one thing. Guest guest
It sounds to me as though your islet cells aren't completely dead; the walking probably stimulates them to produce insulin. You do realize, don't you, that there are some people who would sell their firstborn to get morning readings in the 120s? So be gentle with yourself. Many people find that having a fatty snack with a bit of alcohol just before bed helps mitigate against the Dawn Effect. [alldiabeticinternational] Re: I have a stupid question!!
