I worked for nearly 3 hours yesterday trying to decode a Mime file with the

decoder that AOL's tech support tells you to use. I have complained to them

several times over the past few years about this stupid Mime problem. They

don't know how to fix it -- they just tell you to use the decoder. I assure

you it does NOT work!!

Probably the best way to transfer the scanned file is to save it as a .JPEG or

a bitmap file. I know that I don't have a problem reading the above mentioned

file but it's not just AOL that has a problem with . mime file.

LadyBoss56-

This is a problem at your end. They are being sent correctly, but your email

program is seeing it wrong. This is due to the fact that there are two

separate attachments (for our convenience). This is an AOL problem.

If they are resent, please send only one attachment for those folks whose

mime capabilities are limited.

Folks-

It IS a .jpg, AND a .bmp, which is why AOL chokes on it.

My email program sees it just fine. It asks WHICH of the two (or both) do I

want to open. This is not a sender problem. I know that doesn't help you,

but the only solutions are:

1. leave AOL for a more straight-through ISP such as FlashNet (which is

cheaper)

2. have the sender send them with ONE attachment, EITHER .jpg OR .bmp.

She only sent both so that we could open them in pretty much any editor, as

a favor to us. I'm sure if she knew that AOL wouldn't decode them together,

she'd have picked one (.jpg) only.

Again, it's your AOL software's deficiency, not an operator error (at either

end) that is causing this.

My wife is Director of Investor Relations for a 100 million dollar company,

and she can't get AOL to fix it either.

Software ain't perfect, and the guys who write it are usually completely

unaware of how we're going to use it or what we'll expect it to do (like

recognize the year 2000 as a leap year!).

I have forwarded the email to my work address so I can get the picture of the

ribbon. I will put it up on the webpage this weekend for the others that

cannot download it.
