-- I had been asked about a week

ago, by a near-by funeral home, for info. on embalming of CJD victims.

In speaking with one of the Director's, I ask what the Texas Dept. of

Healths Criteria for these procedures where. He said they had none. Told

me NOBODY, had every mintioned it to him....

I asked if they normally suited up for all victims, as if they all had

H.I.V.

He said they probably should, but NEVER DO????????

After Reading 4.61, of the Diagnostic Laboratories, (Where the diagnosis

of CJD is known or suspected, it is ADVISABLE TO AVOID EMBALMING

PROCEDURES), I find it TOTALLY UNREAL, that the DEPT. OF HEALTH has not

started some sort of Nation Wide education program, NOT ONLY FOR THE

MEDICAL SOCIETY, BUT ALSO, FOR THE FUNERAL HOME INDUSTRY, and Family and

in-home care, to help educate them on CJD????????

I guess they are still going by the assumption, " IT'S NOT HERE " !!!

Terry, am happy to say that we have done some training in Utah. With the help

of Mr. Kurt Soffe, President of the Utah Funeral Directors Assoc. in Utah, they

have put together a

training package and have presented it to the funeral directors here. Am sure

that Mr. Soffe would be willing to share some of the technical input with his

peers in other

states Mel in SLC

Marie -

Would it be possible to forward a copy of the guidelines for undertakers

and embalmers to me? I am going to contact the funeral homes association

here in Colorado. I am sure that they are NOT addressing the problem.

Sharlene Weiser

3119 County Road R

Wiggins, Colorado 80654

If you need funds to cover copying and mailing, please be sure to let me

know.

We had my Dad cremated as was his wish, but I know that other families will

not want to do as we did.

Thanks, Shar
