Guest guest
Thank you for the invitation to join, I have never received one before. I am a type 2 have been since 2001 and I can not seem to stay away from sugar. I read the 7 step post and I think I will try it but I have a question. When you eat the protein, is that all no carbs included? Anyway good luck to everyone here.

Hi, welcome ;-) to be honest, what I have been taught here in Ca by the diabetic educators, is to eat moderate amounts of mixed things. Some protein, some carb, somefat. This causes your body to make a smaller " rise " in your BG's. I have been taught to eat several small meals a day, versus one big one. I would be hesitant to suggest you other than that. You could certainly ask your doctor his thoughts on the this, that is always a wise course of action. Hugs, Marilyn Marilyn Moderator for Diabetic_Recipes dnevessr@... Guest guest
Hi, belle, welcome to the group, as far as I know, there is no difference between what is recommended for all as healthy eating and what is considered the " diabetic " diet... portion control, and carb counting is what most of us have been told, do you have a meter for tracking your blood sugar levels? if you do you can test about 2 hours after you have eaten and see what causes your sugars to raise like that, there is also the medosa site that a lot of people recommend for good information like the glycemic index... A large portion of diabetes are told to eat between 45 and 60 gm carbs per meal, and I was told to each 45 each meal saving the 15 for a snack.. Guest guest
GREETINGS -- Recommended dietary strategy for hypoglycemia often includes: 1. Dividing daily intake of food into at least six small meals. 2. Eating a high fiber, complex carbohydrate, low-fat, protein-rich diet. 3. Emphasizing whole grains, fresh vegetables (raw when possible), and fresh fruit. 4. Minimizing sugar intake. Eat sweets only at special meals, in small amounts, and only as part of the meal. 5. Avoiding caffeine. Caffeine is found in coffee, chocolate, tea and colas. 6. Reducing alcohol intake and avoid alcohol entirely on an empty stomach. 7. Watching portions carefully if weight gain is a concern. 8. Exercising is important. Hypoglycemia is a chronic condition which requires special treatment. With a good nutrition program you can expect a healthy prognosis. Recommended dietary strategy for diabetic ranges from long- recommended ADA diet (high complex carbohydrate (up to 60% of calories) low fat) to low carb (exemplified by Drs Bernstein and Atkins). Fresh fruits and vegetables best limited to ones with low to moderate glycemic index (small effect on blood sugars). In the case of sugar use appropriate substitutes in lieu of sugary products. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive life style disease that requires coordination of diet and exercise and, if necessary, medications to control blood sugars and avoid complications. I am a Type 2 diabetic myself who has been using insulin since I was diagnosed 10+ years ago. I followed the ADA recommended diet mor many years with poor blood siugar control and then started using the management strategies outlined in " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution " with a great deal of success. wambo1941 > Hello everyone I just joined the group. > My name is belle and I am a 24/f/Arkansas. > I have severe hypoglycemia, but latley my blood sugar has been running > high.
