Guest guest
Hello ! > I ride my bike for pretty much the same reason as you, for therapy and >to keep my blood sugars down with less insulin. I used to cycle regularly in the mornings up until a few years ago, but as the children grew up they had to be chauffeured everywhere, leaving me with less time to get out and ride. Much the same story as any parent with a growing family, I guess. Anyway, since I was diagnosed T2 (about 8 months ago), I've taken up my morning cycling again. I ride around 10 miles each weekday morning, and generally manage one longer run at the weekend. I hadn't noticed it making much difference to my BG - or so I thought - but I've been working away for the past month and haven't been able to cycle, and my BG readings are starting to drift upwards. Not by much - I'm getting figures of around 5.3 just before my evening meal, as opposed to 4.9. Not much of a difference, admittedly, but in general my readings are consistently higher, albeit by a small amount. The only thing that I'm doing differently is not going out cycling, so I'm looking forward to this weekend when I can get back in the saddle. I'll be back at home more often for the next few weeks, so it will be interesting to see if my levels come back down. Incidentally, for those of you who are in the UK and who are thinking of taking up cycling, or who have children who like to ride, I've produced a family-oriented site at http://www.cycle-tracks.co.uk. It may be a little " tame " for those of you who are experienced cyclists, or who are more than " weekend warriors " , but the idea of the site is to encourage families to do something healthy, as a group. it needs updating in places, but what site doesn't ? ;-) regards, Eddie.
