Guest guest
Not having any plans for vacation, which is just over a week away, I went and booked a cruise today. Actually I found a great deal on the net. Decided, found one, booked it, paid for it, and confirmed it all in an hour, including a hotel reservation for the night before. OK, how do I handle my diabetes and control my BG on a cruise. I have been on cruises before, this is our 4th, but this is the 1st one since being diagnosed last February. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions on food intake? BTW, I am also trying to lose weight, just thought I'd throw that in. Guest guest
les, there is no reason that you can't continue to do what you have been doing to control your sugars... most cruises have many dining options, so you will have a wide variety of foods to chose from, they also can accommodate special needs, you might have to contact the cruise line about that, and bring your testing kit...lol, keep that with you plus any meds that you might need, and when you get on board you can always check in with the ships Doctor for advice.. Enjoy your vacation, where you off too? Carmen [alldiabeticinternational] May Have Done A Bad Thing! Guest guest
We are going to Bermuda, where we spent our honeymoon, 36 years ago. Of course if this is anything like the first time we were there I will be seeing the ship's doctor. I wound up with the German measles on my honeymoon! This will be our 4th cruise, we have been to: The Bahamas New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and last year Alaska. Guest guest
Oh, No....lol, Les, stay away from anyone with red spots...lol, you don't want that happening again...life as you know it isn't over just because you have diabetes... you just have to make some changes in the way that you do things, and now adays, it is nothing for a person with challenges to be able to access things that use too they could not... just step away from the dessert bar, and chose small portions, if you need too, bring your measuring cups and scale...what ever it takes to allow you to enjoy your trip.. Guest guest
Thanks Carmen. I have said numerous times, that if I had to have diabetes, this is probably the best time to get it. With all of the low carb foods out there now, it makes it a lot easier than it must have been in the past. I am sure I will be able to work it out on the cruise, just have to watch myself all of the time. Normally it is fairly easuy for me, just hope I can do it on teh cruise. Actually, I don't have a choice. I have to do it. Les Re: [alldiabeticinternational] May Have Done A Bad Thing! Guest guest
hi, les! have to say, have had the same thought about this probably being the best time to get diabetes, what with the *human* insulins and low carb diets...and all the other diets too. life doesn't seem that different to me, except that i no longer need *eDiets* to do my calculations for me. lol! have fun on the cruise! bermuda sounds wonderful. was just in a travel agency today, checked out the cruise brochures. seems to me cruises have done a lot to change the way they do meals these days...and offer opportunities to burn the cals off. sounds more than doable. oh yes...definitely, stay away from folks with polka dots on their faces! ;> rach > Thanks Carmen. > > I have said numerous times, that if I had to have diabetes, this is probably > the best time to get it. It is so great we have the ability to test at will and keep on target! I know you will find a lot of things to do for exercise, too ;-) Have a wonderful time!
