Raw yolks are perfectly fine to enjoy often, but raw whites are safest to enjoy only on occasion. I don't worry too much about mayo, personally - unless you're eating a whole batch every day, or something. :-) Steph
Guest guest
It is the yolk Cian likes. He goes after it not the white. Aileen I let him have one or two a week. Since I couldn't find the pastuerized eggs, I spoke to someone who is a mentor to many on the SCD diet who said that she felt organic eggs were safe, though I'm still not sure why. Guest guest
> It's the raw egg white that is considered to be the problem (it's > > still > > debated by some as to whether it actually is a problem). The egg is made up of various proteins, many of which are highly allergenic. The four major allergenic proteins of hen's egg white are ovomucoid, ovalbumin, ovotransfferin, and lysozyme. Ovalbumin, the major allergen, makes up fifty percent of an egg white. Most people with an egg allergy are allergic to the egg white proteins, but there are those who are allergic to the yolk. Hens are fed various grains. Organic eggs are so labeled because the feed is organic. Free run eggs are supposed to be good too. I notice a slight difference between conventional and organic eggs ( this may be psychological. It would be best to do a blind taste test:-) The SCD diet is effective with conventional food. Super sensitive people prefer organic. Organic is not always available to us and can be very costly. On TV and radio it is often stated that conventional produce is fine if washed well (not using special vegetable " washes " ). Carol F. I think this is my answer - that it's still debatable. I think someone else mentioned that and you added it to my snip. I vaguely remember someone telling me once that raw yolks were more problematic than raw whites. Take care, Fay
